Chapter 4 Attack In the forbidden forest

Saturday night, we have detention. Sirius and I meet up in the forbidden forest where filch and Mrs Norris ( his evil cat) stood. The light from his lamp shone in my eyes as i run to the forbidden forest. We wait for Sirius but he still hadn't shown up. I started to worry wondering if he already went into the forest.

A dark figure with black long hair approached us. I let out a sigh of relief.

"Damn Sirius i was worr- Snivellous?!" It was Snape who had come not Sirius. I clenched my fists and gnawed my teeth. He returned a smirk and chuckled.

"Sorry to disappoint you Potter. I'm sure its usual for Black to be late. Am I right?" I felt like punching that sly smile off his face but decided he wasn't worth it. Mrs Norris starts to meow impatiently.

"Alright since Mr Black has not come yet we shall go ahead in detention." Filch snarled. He petted Mrs Norris and walked towards the lofty dark trees which enclosed the vast deep forest. I cautiously walked into the forbidden forest, searching my surroundings in case a creature pounced on me. I fasten my pace trying to catch up with Snape and Filch.

"What's the point of this?" Snivellous asked clearly bored by this. Filch shot a cold glare at Snape and narrowed his eyes.

"It teaches yer undisciplined minds to go by the rules!" He growled. Snape and I take a step back scared by the tone in his voice. We continue lurking deeper and deeper into the forest until we reach a huge tree with a lot of carvings in it.

"Carve your name here. This is the tree of shame." I snicker at the thought of this but instantly knew it was a mistake. Mrs Norris takes a bite in my hand and prances away. Snivellous starts engraving his name with an axle so I do the same.

"So *hit* Snivellous *hit* What did *hit* you do*hit* t get into detention *hit*." I drop my axle exhausted and use my non injured hand to wipe off sweat.

"None of your business Potter" He snarled. " But lets just say you will regret if you even lay a finger on a certain someone." I instantly think of Lily and let our a snort.

"Oh I'm very scared Snivellous. Wouldnt wanna touch your girly would I." I shoot back at him. He narrows his eyebrows and lets out a scowl.

Suddenly I hear a twig snap.

"Sh someone's here." I point out. Snape holds his axle as a defense as I draw out my wand.

"Lumous" I mutter. I look around and thats when a huge black figure leaps forward.

Snape dropped his axle and ran away as quickly as he could while I crawled backwards attempting to pull the 'thing' off me. Its bloody mouth widens revealing sharp yellow fangs. I grope for my wand but then-

LILY'S POV

I pace around the common room worried waiting for James or Sirius or Remus or even Peter to burst through the door. I gaze out the door and watch as the full moon rises. I narrow my eyes to see the whomping willow smacking its branches everywhere like crazy and underneath it the shrieking shack. A howl escapes it. I gasp wondering if a wolf could've taken them.

SUddenly the portrait door burst ajar. An average sized boy with curly black hair and blue eyes enters with a worried look.

"I'm so stupid!" Sirius yells slapping himself on the forehead.

"Wheres James and Remus" I ask worried.

"I left James at detention! In the forbidden forest." He bites his lip while my eyes broadens.

"YOU WHAT! Wheres Remus??"

"I don't know. I only saw him run out the castle. Man his eyes were bloodshot red and he just looked dreadful!" Sirius plonks onto the couch rubbing his eyes groggily.

I continue to pace around the room thinking.

"Sirius you don't happen to know where...um..Sev is?" Sirius lets out a snort.

"Git got detention too. Ha los-" Sirius suddenly realises the situation and jumps off the couch to run to the portrait hole.

"Wait! Where are you going?"

"To detention! I left James alone with Snivellous." Sirius exclaimed. I roll my eyes at Sev's terrible nickname. I grab my coat and wand and follow Sirius out the door.

"You can't come Evans!" He yells.

"I am whether you like it or not." I defy him. He stands there and reluctantly nodded. We run down the staircase which moves so often. Finally reaching the door I whisper Alohomora and the lock unlocks. We run outside and into the forbidden forest. I look around for James and Sev but I can't see them."Lumous" I mutter and continue walking till I hear a shrilling scream. Tingles run down my spine as a boy with long black hair and a hooked nose bumps into me.

"Lily!"

"Sev? Where's James?" I ask looking around behind him. My eyes dart around till it locks with Sev's worried eyes.

"Something jumped on him! I panicked and ran away." I hear Sirius mumble coward and start running deeper into the woods. I push Sev out of the way and follow him my wand on guard.

JAMES POV

"Bombarda!" I yell. The figure goes flying back leaving smoke rising. Yes someone can find me now. I get up and grope around to find my glasses. My eyes land on a small ring. It was the same as the one in my vault. I try grab the ring but instead it disappears leaving nothing but mist.

"James!" I hear Sirius coming. He throws his arms around me and helps me up.

I smirk when I see Lily standing there awkward.

"Come to save me Evans?" I say cockily. She takes a step closer towards me and pushes me to the ground screaming.

"JAMES POTTER WE AREN'T EVEN A WEEK INTO SCHOOL AND YOU MANAGE TO ALMOST DIE!" Lily starts bursting into screams and shrieks. After she finishes Lily muttered sorry.

We start walking out of the forbidden forest and I think about the ring that always disappears.

"Sirius?"

"yeah?"

"When that thing..got blasted backwards, a ring fell out of his pocket."I say and noticed Lily's attention focus to our conversation.

"So..." Sirius clearly has no clue.

"So it was the same one as the one in my vault!"

"What did the ring look like?" Lily put in. Her face was so serious. I grin to myself but nonetheless reply.

"Well its gold with an amethyst studded at the front and some weird signs around it." I shrug but Lily gasps.

"What?" Sirius asks. Judging by her surprised face it is probably important.

"Ok tomorrow morning meet at the library straight after History of Magic." She turned on her heel and ran quickly to the castle. Sirius and I arrive at our dormitories and realise Remus isn't here yet. He must've gone for a walk or something. I crossed my arm behind my head and lay down. My eyes flickered and I drifted to sleep.

"Master I lost the ring. The potter boy must've stolen it!" The same hooded figure scowled.

Another tall young boy walked around his finger tapping his chin.

"We must find it! The only way it can be found is if the person desired to it has it. Then only will it appear." The hooded figure nodded and apparated.

The tall boy started muttering to himself. He pulled out a book and started reading. Suddenly his eyes widened at the name Marvolo Gaunt. He smirked and pulled out a coat and wand then stormed out the door.
