After school Justin took me home and decided he would hang out a while so we could talk.
We were in the kitchen, Justin was sitting on the counter while I grabbed us some drinks out of the fridge.
"So Justin how long have you and Jaden been together?" I asked purposely messing up her name, I know I seem so petty right now.
"It's Jada" he chuckled, "and we have been together a few months"
"Oh" was all I said as I nodded my head staying quiet.
"Thanks" he told me as he took his cup.
"No problem" I shrug and everything gets quiet as we just drink our juice.
The silence was starting to bug me so I decided to break it.
"How come I've never seen you with her until today?"
He just shrugs before answering, "um I don't know, maybe you were too busy ignoring me" he looks at me grinning.
"Sorry about that it was just a hard time for me" I tell him as I smile a little.
Justin jumped off the counter and grabbed my hand I looked at him confused then the next thing I know he is leading me to the living room.
"Talk to me" he tells me as he sits on the couch dragging me next to him
"About...?"
"You, your life there is something about you that makes me want to get to know you"
"I uh I don't know" I bite my lip as I stare at him.
"I don't want to pressure you or anything but maybe you should talk about it with someone"
"Well" I start with a sigh, "I am adopted as you can see"
Justin just nods, "when did they adopt you?"
"A year ago going on two"
"Really?" He asks surprised
"Yeah ever since I was 11 I've been pretty much in and out of foster homes" I shrug
"Ohh I'm sorry" he tells me.
"Don't be, just don't get too attached to me because this could be the last time we ever see each other again"
"Why do you say that?" he asked as he furrowed his eyebrows.
"Nobody wants me around long, it's only a matter of time before these people decide I'm not what they want"
"Hey don't ever say that Selena you are very important and no one could ever get tired of having you around" he lifted my chin so that I was looking at him.
"Sure" I just mumble before moving my face from his hand.
"Selena I'm serious" he moved hair from my face.
"Okay okay" I tell him so we could just drop it. "any other questions?"
"Um, if you don't mind me asking what happened to your birth parents"
I froze slightly and Justin looked at me concerned.
"Sel?"
"I-I lost them" was all I could manage to say. I tried to swallow down the lump that was forming in my throat and my eyes started to sting.
"I'm sorry Selena"
"Stop it!" I sigh
"Stop what?"
"Apologizing! You have nothing to be sorry about!" I look down again.
"I'm sorry-- I mean uh well what do you expect me to say?"
"Nothing just say nothing no matter what you ever say the past will always be the past! They are never coming back!" I scream as a tear falls then I fall silent.
"I'm sorry" I mumble as I'm the one apologizing this time.
"Selena your perfectly fine, don't ever apologize for how you feel. Okay?" He wiped my tears away.
"Okay" i nod.
"I won't pressure you to tell me anything else alright, you can tell me when you're ready" he tells me and i nod once again.
"Now come on and smile for me" he smiles at me.
Without thinking I found myself smiling at him like a fool.
"How do you do this to me" I sigh and lay back.
"Do what?" He laughed.
"Make me feel happy so fast, I mean I could have swore just yesterday I hated you" I giggled.
"I'm just what you needed, someone to talk to, a friend" he smiles at me.
"And I can't thank you enough, you have had so much patience with me over this little time"
"Of course" he nodded at me.
"So how long are you staying?" I asked.
"Well I gotta go soon, Jada is waiting for me. I just wanted to stop by and make sure you were okay"
"Ohh okay, well thanks for stopping by"
"No problem"
