I just got home after a long work day. I coach high school football and also teach a couple PE classes.I moved to NYC a little over 2 years ago. I decided to leave my home state of Ohio when I broke up with my girlfriend Kayla. We were doomed from the start of our relationship but it still hurt when I left. It's been a while though, my heart has started seeking for love again but I just don't know if I'm ready for that yet.
I walk into the building of my apartment and see a pretty girl at the desk. Well I don't know if she's pretty because I can't see her face, she has long blonde hair and is pretty tall. Not taller than me though.
I walk past her and step into the elevator. I press the button to go to floor 13 and the doors close. I lean against the wall and shut my eyes.
Once I hear the ding i open my eyes and make my way down the hallway. There's only 2 apartments on my floor. Me and some other girl. I'm assuming it's a girl. She has a floral door mat. Sometimes I hear cats meowing from her apartment and I think there's more than one.
I was planning on introducing myself when she moved in a year ago but I never had the time and now it's been an awkward amount of time to say hello now.
I get to my door and unlock it. I look on the door that's mirrored to mine and notice that the mysterious girl has put out a sign on her door. It matches her doormat and has a bunch of flowers on it along with bees and birds on it. It reads the simple words Welcome on it. I smile and step into my house. It's cold and empty, you never realize how much living with someone else spices up your hood until they leave. I flick the lights on and my dog, Rambo comes running up to me. "Hey buddy." I lean down to pet him.
I go into my room and strip out of my clothes. I grab a pair of sweatpants and leave it at just that.
"Ram! You hungry bud?" I yell out as I'm walking into the kitchen. I put food in his bowl and call it a night.
I go into my bathroom and brush my teeth before crawling into bed. I answer some work emails before I hear a door slam. Must be the girl across the hall. New York apartments don't have super thick walls so I hear almost everything, I assume that goes both ways so I try to be quiet.
I shut my phone off and close my eyes.
I slowly wake up to the sound of my alarm going off.
I roll over and turn it off before rubbing my eyes. I get out of bed and go into my bathroom. I start the shower to a cold temperature and get it. I like to start my day with a cold shows to really wake me up.
I get out and get dressed for work.
I make some coffee and eggs for breakfast. I check the time and realize that I'm running a bit behind. I clean my plate off and grab my backpack and keys.
I shut my door and lock it.
