It was his everyday routine. Go to work, leave at around 6, bet a few dollars at the casino, and have some beers. Weekends would be a bit more hectic. Take the morning shift, watch T.V, go to the casino and bet more than 100 dollars, lose it all, become drunk enough to forget. If he could just win once, he would never go to that casino again.
"Sorry John, we're fresh out of beer. That guy over there took the last two glasses." "Are you sure you're all out? Did you check the back?" "We checked everywhere. You'll have to wait till tomorrow for the next barrel." "Fine... Thanks anyway, I'll see you tomorrow." "Take it easy out there, John."
John glared at the man with the two beers, and saw that he was surrounded by fans. Mostly women, and a few guys too. "Who does that idiot think he is...?!" John whispered to himself angrily. The man was shaking all the men's hands and giving all the women kisses on the cheek. "What a creeper..." John grabbed his coat and headed for the exit. But not before glancing over at the man one last time. "I've never seen him around here, is he new? Maybe... Wait, did he just look at me?" John did a double take and saw the man staring right back at him. He rubbed his eyes and as soon as he opened them, he was facing all the women once again.
John scoffed. "Whatever, I suppose it's too much to ask for one glass of beer here." John walked out of the casino with his arms crossed, and eyes facing the ground. It was pretty cloudy outside, so John picked up the pace. He searched for his keys when he got to the front of his house, twisted the keys in the doorknob, and opened the door.
"Another crappy Sunday..." John sat on his couch lazily and checked the time. 11:25. He needed to sleep. He had an early shift tomorrow. "Ugh... I have the worst headache." John slowly walked to his room and stripped out of his everyday clothing, and changed into a clean pair of boxers and a white tank top.
"Only once, if I could win at that casino... No, if I could win at life. Just once, I would never bet on anything ever again." John sighed into his pillow and closed his eyes, drifting to sleep.
John loved to bet things, but he also hated it. Every time he would bet something valuable, someone else would always get it. John mostly played poker, slots, and other casino themed games. But when it came to roulette, he couldn't win no matter how hard he tried. The most money he's won was from his first poker match, which he won 50$.
But when it came to roulette, he never won once. Whenever he didn't win, he would drown his sadness with beer, even if it was expensive. He was pretty much a regular at that casino, coming in almost everyday. But he knew it was just a waste of time and money. Thanks to his "amazing" job as a cubicle slave, he makes enough to go to the casino every now and then. But he regrets it every time.
John never found love. Even after spending all his time at the casino. Considering the place was filled to the brim with females, he never had a chance to even talk to them. None of them were his type though, too fancy, too over-sexualized, too judgemental. He had nothing against girls obviously, he just never paid any attention to them. He did manage to strike up a decent conversation with a guy though. He was wondering which drink was the best besides beer, and John suggested a margarita.
John was asexual. He never considered having sex with anyone. He didn't bother with relationships in general, they would always end up in tears and walking out the door on a cliché rainy day.
John was just an ordinary guy, he had a bit of a temper, somewhat bad attitude, but was also calm and content when he need to be. John enjoyed reading and going in his computer the most, a simple way of escaping reality. But he always knew, no matter how hard you try, you can never escape the real world.
