Once At Midnight | Book 1

Chapter 3

"Guys, meet Midnight!" Candy introduced Midnight to her friends, Nathaniel and Dylan.

"And you're saying she's your lost twin from New Jersey? And that you were separated when your parents divorced?" Nathaniel asked, scratching his soft blue hair in confusion.

"Yup! Weird, right?" Candy replied. "But let's forget that. Let's get the assignment done so we can enjoy the last Sunday before school starts on Monday."

After completing the assignment, everyone packed up.

"Finally, we're done!" Nathaniel exclaimed, stretching his arms.

"Now that we're done, Midnight, you mentioned you're new here. How about we show you around the place?" Dylan suggested, turning to Midnight, who seemed lost in thought. Her gaze locked onto him, her face flushing.

"Oh, me? Not at this moment. Maybe later?" Midnight blushed, twirling her hair around her finger.

Candy noticed the exchange between Midnight and Dylan, sensing an atmosphere between them. She decided to intervene. "Okay, that was fun! Midnight and I better get going now. It was nice, but Dylan did say he didn't want to see me again." Candy pulled Midnight along and headed out.

As they walked home, Candy's mind was consumed with thoughts of what to do with Midnight.

"I'm going to have to enroll her in school with my allowance..."

They finally reached home, and Midnight whispered to herself, "This is where I live now." She looked at her new home in awe. It was a large mansion painted white with gold ornaments and accessories. A grand fountain adorned the front yard, and a large pool graced the backyard, surrounded by six cars in the car park. Midnight smiled, her eyes glowing brightly as she floated inside.

Candy stood outside, watching Midnight float gracefully indoors. "I think I'll be just fine with Midnight," she murmured to herself before heading inside and shutting the door.
