A week later, Midnight had already started school. It was Friday when she decided to meet with Candy under the maple tree in their schoolyard.
"Hello, Candy," Midnight greeted, walking over and sitting with her, books in hand.
"How's your first day treating you?" Candy asked playfully. "Fill me in on everything that's happened!"
Midnight blushed and giggled. "Nothing too interesting, but Dylan gave me his notebook in chemistry class so I could catch up with the rest of the class. He also called me really cool and special the other day!"
"He did all that? You've got yourself an admirer..." Candy remarked.
Midnight's heart skipped a beat. 'An admirer?' she thought, her face flushing red. "Dylan? No way! Maybe... But..."
"Of course he does. I've known that guy for 10 years," Candy said, looking down.
"I also recall him mentioning a sister? Ralpha! She invited him to stay in her cabin this weekend. And he invited me..." Midnight said.
"Oh, he did, didn't he?! I'm coming too!" Candy exclaimed. "But not for any specific reason related to Dylan, just to take care of you!" Candy added, lying.
Candy and Midnight started packing that Friday night so Dylan would pick them up the next morning.
"Does Dylan know you're coming?" Midnight asked.
"Let's just say I want to surprise him..." Candy lied. "But let's start packing."
"So, we put the stuff inside the bags?" Midnight asked, scratching her chin.
"Yeah, it's real easy. But not just anything, stuff you'll need since we're staying Saturday and Sunday. Like clothes and maybe hygiene stuff. Things like that. Can you try?" Candy explained.
"Sure!" Midnight said. "It looks so easy!"
Candy finished packing into four large travel bags, while Midnight managed to fit everything into one small travel bag. "Wow! You fit everything in one! I'm impressed," Candy said, scratching her head. "I have so many necessities I need four traveling bags. But never mind that, let's sleep. We have a long day ahead of us!"
***
The next day, Candy woke up as early as 5:30 am. She yawned and stretched out of bed, padding downstairs to get a glass of water. As she descended the stairs and entered the kitchen, she heard noises at the front gates. Candy's phone rang.
"Hello?" Candy answered.
"Candy? Where's Midnight? I'm picking Midnight up by 6," Dylan said on the phone.
"But it's half past 5 in the morning! What are you, crazy?!" Candy yelled but lowered her voice so she wouldn't wake Midnight.
"I didn't come for you, I came for Midnight. Now, where is she?!" Dylan demanded.
"Fine, I'll get MIDNIGHT since you LOVE her so much!" Candy cut the call angrily.
She went back upstairs and woke Midnight, who was in a deep sleep.
"No, I don't wanna..." Midnight muttered in her sleep. "Please, mother... No... more."
"Come on, Midnight, wake up. Your new boyfriend wants you," Candy groaned while shaking Midnight.
Midnight suddenly woke up, her eyes white as she blasted a ball of blue fire at the curtain. She finally woke up. "Good morning, Candy!" Midnight said, getting out of bed. "Is there any reason for waking me?"
"Your boyfriend, Dylan, came to pick you up 30 minutes before time," Candy said in a sarcastic voice.
"Ah! I better get ready!" Midnight floated into the bathroom and grabbed something cute to wear. Candy looked at the curtain now with a hole in it, some bits still burning.
