Magic Knights Exam pt. 3

Akari's PoV:

"Well my job here seems to be done." I said looking over to Captain Vangeance.

"Yes, well done Akari." He gave me a warm smile. I returned the gesture. I looked over to see Asta against his opponent. 'I don't have a good feeling about him.I wish I could warn him and tell him about my thoughts but I don't it's allowed for 'special guests' to have objections towards one's opponent' I had faith in Asta, it was just his opponent I did not trust. He seemed the type to have underestimated Asta's strength and power and only chose to stay close to him because he assumed he was weak.

"Bronze Creation Magic: Sekke Magnum Cannonball!"  

A large ball covered him, as Asta's opponent smirked at him. He looked up and winked towards me and Captain William. I bent over a bit so I could reach captain's ear and whispered.

"Is he winking at you or me?" I asked. "I certainly hope not me." Captain whispered back, I chuckled as I straightened my posture. Captain Yami started commenting on how his Magnum Cannonball looked like a squishy toy.                    

Asta looked up at me, I gave him a warm smile. He returned the gestured as he turned to look at his opponent sternly.

People started gossiping about Asta and how he has no chance.

"The match is already decided his magic isn't even enough to make a dent!"

"Hey! Look at his grimoire! Ha! It's so tattered!"

"Can he even use any magic?"

"A lowly peasant from the boonies, no squad will want him!" 

Upon hearing the last comment, my blood started to boil. 'I am from the boonies and I turned out just fine!!' 

"Hey Asta! Don't be shy, I'm waiting for ya!"

"Alright then here I come!" Asta said before dashing towards his opponent with his grimoire floating next to him as a heavy sword emerged from it. 

I looked over to the captain and I could tell captain Yami and Captain William were either having the same thought or answering each others thoughts unintentionally. Even if they did it wouldn't be the first time they did.

Asta gripped hard on his sword and slammed in on his opponent's Magnum Cannonball. The cannonball spit into two pieces and knocked out Asta's opponent, Sekke I believe? What the hell just happened?!" Someone from the crowd said. Everyone else including me were surprised.

'Wow. That was something. That magic....it's not magic. It nullified Sekke's cannonball, I think...could it be? Is his magic Anti-magic? He doesn't possess magic ,does he? I don't sense any mana even with his grimoire out.'

Captain Vangeance leaned back and whispered to me. "It seems you were right.....we do have some interesting contestants this year."

"I'm not just here to join the magic knights and slack off! I'm here to work my butt off and become the future Wizard King!!" Asta declared.

'If there is anything I admire about Asta is his determination. But, I'm sorry Asta but the seat for future Wizard ruler is already reserved..........by me of course!' I thought with a smirk on my face.

People started muttering and gossiping about Asta which ticked me off. 'They really thought a peasant from the boonies have no potential huh?'

Matches went on and on and finally it's was a match between Yuno and a noble. 

'Heyyy look it's Salim from the halfass family!! God I hate him.' 

People starting talking about which noble family he's from. I honestly don't give a damn about learning people's last names if they have a shitty personality.

'What's so special about him anyway, Yuno is clearly better— No, Akari stop you don't know him!'

Salim said something to Yuno on which he agreed on. Salim walked ahead Yuno. "You may have been chosen by the four leaf clover but you're still a lowly peasant from the boonies!"

He took his position. "Let me show you the difference between a noble's power and that of a lowly peasant's" He mocked and then looked at Captain's direction flirtatiously and winked.

I looked at Captain William in shock. Captain seemed to notice my graze and chuckled 

"He was looking at you Akari, not me." He told. "Oh! EWW!" I shrieked and hide behind Captain William's chair terrified. Captain William chuckled while captain Yami, Finral and Leo were snickering.

I noticed Yuno glaring and him. Why though? Why does it offend him we don't even know each other.

The match began and Salim took the first shit he got and attacked Yuno with his lighting magic but Yuno encountered Salim's attack with his towering tornado. Their attacks collided and created a huge lighting tornado which launched Salim into the air and knocked him out. Yuno dispersed his spell and was declared the victor of the match. I noticed he took a short glance at me.

After the exam

"Ah— that was a nice break!!" I said stretching my arms. I was heading towards the meet point where I was supposed to meet up with Langris and the new member— Yuno.

I bumped into someone I looked up to see Yuno. "Oh..Hi Yuno, right?" He hummed in response 

Suddenly my grimoire started glowing. It seemed to catch his attention. Hikaru came out and started floating in front of my face.

"Akariiiiiiiiiiiii !! Is the Exam over yet?? I'm bored!!" Yuno's eyes looked like they would fall out of his eye sockets. "What is that?" Yuno asked pointing towards Hikaru. Hikaru turned to face Yuno.

"Oh. Her? She's my spirt ally! I got her a few months ago!" I replied as Hikaru went and sat on my shoulder. "How old are you and how long have you been in the squad?" He asked

"I am 16 and I have been in the squad for I think 19 months!"

"And you're already Vice Captain?"

"Yes, pretty much! Hey....where's Asta?"

"He ate something stupid."

"Oh, you should check up on him."

"Hm? You're right, by the way what's your name?

"Akari!"

"Last name?"

"Oh...I'm and orphan who was left at the doorsteps of Sunrise church."

"Sunrise church? You're from Sunrise Village? That's my neighbour ping village. Anyways I'm going to see Asta, uhm you can wait for me here?"

"Alright."

"Don't take too long Wind boy" Hikaru commented

"I won't"

I looked at Hikaru from the corners of my eyes. "Wind Boy?" I questioned her nickname for him.

"What? Just because I was in your grimoire does not mean I don't know what going on!" I chuckled and stoped almost immediately when I felt a rush of mana coming from the direction Yuno went. 'I hope everything's ok..'

I then saw Captain Yami drag and throw Asta into a portal created by Finral. Captain Yami noticed me.

"See ya later kiddo." Captain Yami said

"Bye Akari!!" Finral waved

I waved back "Bye Captain Yami! See ya Finral! I looked back and saw Yuno.

"Ready to go Yuno?" 

"Yes." He replied

'Hmm. He sure is something else'
