At 5 pm, Gold and Harry decided to call it a day. They had already finished two subjects and Gold felt that their preparation for the finals was going great. They gathered up their books and stuff and left the library building. Gold wanted to check out the new autumn collection at The Shoppers' Stop as she wanted to buy some clothes for her London trip. She told Harry to drop her at the store before going home but Harry insisted on accompanying her. Harry parked his car in the basement while Gold made her way inside the store. Gold was checking out some bracelets near the elevator, waiting for Harry to join her when the elevator doors opened and out came Mona with her group of chattering girlfriends. Mona spotted Gold the moment she walked out of the elevator. Just as Mona was about to tap her shoulder, Harry appeared by Gold's side.

'How come you refused to come to shopping with me in the morning and are ready to go shopping with your best friend in the evening?' Mona confronted Gold. Her girlfriends pretended that they weren't listening to what she was saying and stood a step behind her talking among themselves.

'It's not like that! I was at the library till now studying and on the way back home, I thought of checking out the autumn collection here,' Gold tried to explain.

'Can't she go shopping on her own when she wants to? Is it absolutely necessary for Gold to take your permission about that?' Harry interjected.

'Excuse me, I am not talking to you here. I'm talking to Gold, who unlike you happens to be my friend,' Mona said brushing Harry's remark away.

'Please listen to me, Mona. I hadn't actually planned to go shopping beforehand. I was just bored and so I thought that I would do some shopping for my London trip,' Gold tried to convince Mona again.

'Why are you explaining yourself to her? Going shopping isn't a crime!' Harry spoke up before Mona said anything. He was clearly looking quite angry.

'See how your so-called best friend is behaving with me? He doesn't even let you speak up for yourself,' Mona said acidly. She was feeling insulted as Harry was trying to point out that she was blaming Gold for no valid reason.

'Enough of this! Harry is not my so-called best friend for God's sake! He really is my best friend and we have practically grown up together. I don't need to prove it to anyone what Harry is to me! And Mona why don't you understand that it doesn't make you any less than my best friend?' Gold was almost shouting.

Both Mona and Harry were taken aback by Gold's sudden outburst. They realized that their best friend was hurt to see them quarreling for her like this. Harry was feeling particularly bad because he had made all this mess.

'I am sorry, Gold. I didn't mean to be rude. And I shouldn't have spoken to you like that, Mona. I'm sorry for that,' Harry was the first one to apologize.

'It's okay. And I am sorry, Gold. I didn't mean what I said. I just blurted it out as I was angry,' Mona apologized.

'You know what, I am not speaking with any of you two. You just are concerned with your own selves and don't care how I feel when I see my two best friends being rude to each other for no legitimate reason at all,' Gold said, tears forming in her eyes threatening to spill down on any given moment.

'Okay. We won't be rude with each other anymore. Please, don't cry,' Harry pleaded with Gold.

'Yes, I won't either,' Mona confirmed.

'I don't believe you. The moment I turn my back, you two will start arguing again,' Gold said as she walked away from them.

'Wait! Where are you going?' Harry ran after Gold as she strode out of the store.

'I don't want to talk to you,' Gold started to sob.

'At least, let me drop you home,' Harry insisted.

'No! I'm not going with you,' Gold turned him down.

'It's okay. I'll drop her home,' Mona suggested as she walked up to Gold.

'I am not going with either of you two. I can go on my own,' Gold yelled and started to walk off.

Harry and Mona stared after Gold in vain. They were feeling guilty as they had made her cry. Gold walked as fast as she could, she didn't know in which direction she was going but she kept on walking. Tears were streaming down her face but she didn't wipe them off. After waiting for a long time for Gold to come back, Harry and Mona decided to leave. Harry dialed Gold's number as he turned his car's ignition on. She didn't pick up his call. 'Damn it! It's all my fault!' Harry muttered and slammed his hand on the steering wheel out of frustration. Luckily, Gold reached her house after losing her way twice. She opened the door and rushed straight into her house slamming the door shut behind her. She ran upstairs to her room and flung herself on her bed. She was still sobbing.

Harry reached Gold's house moments after and knocked on her door. Gold didn't open the door. After knocking for several times more, Harry left. He went to his house, trying again to call Gold. Suddenly, an idea came to his mind. Gold used to put a spare key of her house at Harry's place so she could use it if she ever forgot or lost her own set of keys. He ran through the stairs to his room and dug out Gold's key ring from his desk drawer. He went to Gold's house again and opened up the door with the key he had. He climbed the stairs to Gold's room and quietly opened the door.

Harry saw that Gold was lying on her bed and was sobbing in her pillow. Harry slowly crept near Gold and stood there. Gold realized that someone was standing at her bedside. She peeped from her pillow to see Harry staring down at her.

'Leave me alone,' Gold whimpered and hid her face in the pillow again.

'Gold, please forgive. I really am sorry,' Harry said and sat down on the corner of the bed.

'Why do you guys can't stand each other? Why don't you understand that I love you both?' Gold peeked up from her hiding place.

'I know, I won't misbehave again, I promise,' Harry assured her. He picked up a loose strand of hair that had fallen on Gold's cheek and tucked it behind her ear.

'That's good then,' Gold said finally sitting up.

'Harry, you have to understand that you are my best friend and the most important person in my entire life and no one, including me could possibly change that. You're irreplaceable,' Gold said with some emotion, reaching for Harry's hand.

'Really? Is what you said is true?' Harry questioned her as if he couldn't believe what he had just heard.

'Yes, Harold. I meant every single word that I said,' Gold said. Tears escaped from her eyes even though she tried to stop them.

'Trust me, I'll never disappoint you, Gold,' Harry said, wiping away Gold's tears gently.

'I know. I trust you, Harry,' Gold made an attempt to smile.

'That's good to know. Now, let's go home,' Harry stood up and held out his hand for Gold.

'Yup. Let's go home,' Gold finally smiled at him. She grabbed his hand in her own and got up from her bed.
