[The Voice]
"All things said and done, I'm happy to see you're all right, Your Highness." Nebesha tried to keep spirits up as he joined us so Lazuli could take Adena to the dungeon for the night. She would not be chained, upon the princess' request, but she did have her hands tied. That aside, neither the princess or I had the energy to humor Nebesha's false positivity. "To think Miss Azimaza would do such a thing."
"It is... unprecedented." The princess spoke coldly and slowly, deep in thought or simply shock. "She has worked hard for the family since before I was born. It doesn't make sense."
Nothing made sense at all about this situation. The weapon turned out to be a shard of mirror cleanly cutout from the princess' own vanity. One she had fashioned after being checked by Lazuli and entering the room. To do it so quickly and quietly without being noticed would have required magical and technical skills that Adena was not known to have.
Well don't you guys have this huge possession problem? It was blunt. I knew that, but I was still shaken from the nightmare. I was certainly not in a good place emotionally, but for now the best thing was to try and help where I could.
That being said. It was difficult to help with the princess outright ignoring me. I had tried to talk with her several times since the events had calmed down and she never responded. I had an idea of why.
...Your Highness...
"Please! Just, be quiet right now." She had spoken sharply before catching herself and softening her tone.
"My apologies, Your Highness." Nebesha said with a bow, understandably misinterpreting the situation.
"Huh? Ah, I am sorry Nebesha, that was not directed at you, but rather..."
"Ah, I understand. I am quite sorry, Martin, but this is a rather stressful time right now. If you could please not bother the princess until your input is requested for now."
I took my queue and stayed quiet, opting just to listen and think. Anything to keep me from stewing on that awful memory.
After that, time seemed to pass in a fog. The princess gathered her bearings and went to the dungeon to question Adena. And after that...
~
"Miss Adena Azimaza, you may say your piece." The king spoke boisterously and with dignity, but I could tell, we all could he was boiling with rage. Though no real harm had been done. Both the princess and Adena's wounds had been attended to by Her Highness with healing magic. As I had been told previously, waiting too long will make a wound unhealable by current known healing magic. While these would have healed naturally, the use of magic prevented scarring.
Right now I was bearing witness to the head maid being judged by the king, the princess, and the advisors. We were swift to get here as the attack had just happened in the middle of the night. The princess had not slept since what I could only guess was around two or three in the morning. By now I guessed we were just past mid-morning, maybe nine or tenish.
"I make no excuse for my actions." The words she spoke to the king were the same we had heard in the dungeon, albeit prettied up for a royal court. "I accept whatever judgment is given to me. I ask only, for the sake of the safety of the royal family, that my words are taken into consideration, regardless of if they are accounted in my trial.
"My last conscious memory before the events in question is lying in bed, waiting for sleep to take me. My next waking moment, I was looking at the princess, harmed in her own chambers. Though it was I that harmed her, I have no recollection of the matter. I do not know what this could mean. Perhaps it is nothing more than madness, but might it be something more dangerous, please consider it in the future."
