Sometime in the 22nd Century...

Reploids, highly advanced robots capable of thinking, feeling, and acting completely of their own accord, cooperate with humans in order to create a more peaceful society.

As is always the case, not everything was idyllic: crimes perpetrated by rogue reploids known as "Mavericks" have been a constant threat to the world at large as well as in more localized areas.

In response, a man by the name of Dr. Cain founded the Maverick Hunters, an organization dedicated to curtailing this threat.

Three of these Hunters stand above all others. The first of them is Mega Man X, better known as X. His design and unique mental capabilities would serve as the basis for all reploids that came after him.

Next is Zero. He is also a highly advanced robot (though curiously, not considered a reploid himself technically) with a warrior's spirit and a mysterious past.

Lastly, there's Axl, the brash young Hunter that is also the prototype of a new generation of reploids that would be able to adapt to almost any situation by use of their unique "copy ability".

It had been slow recently at Hunter Base, and Axl was getting restless. The dual-wielder had been complaining about the lack of Maverick action for months now, and the very idea of sitting in front of a computer and "navigating" for another group of rookies, he'd consider turning his guns on himself.

Fortunately for him, today was about to get a whole lot more interesting...

"So, what's this meeting for, again?" the navy blue reploid with a small, reddish ponytail and distinctive x-shaped scar on his face looked to the blue and red robots flanking him.

"No clue," the blue one with a red gem adorning his forehead, X, answered, shrugging his shoulders. Alia just said something about some new recruits before running back out.

He looked toward the red reploid with a long, yellow ponytail and a sword sheathed on his back.

"Same here," came his casual, rather bored reply.

Axl audibly groaned. He really didn't need even more rookies to babysit!

Upon entering the repair bay, they were greeted by the top Navigator herself, next to three stasis pods. Take a good look, boys. These three New Generation Reploids will be your direct protégés."

"What? Now I have more of 'em to take care of? This is so unfair! I just wanna scrap up some Mavericks, not play "teacher" to a bunch of newbies."

"Now, now, Axl," interrupted a cool, male voice from the corner of the room. The back-colored, bulky, official-looking reploid who owned it was none other than the Hunters' commander, Signas. "these three are a bit different than the normal rookies that you're used to heading up. The talents these three possess are quite...unique, and would be an asset to any team."

The Hunter Trio took a look at the three pods. The first two reploids looked rather similar, at least in terms of facial features as well as their blonde hair (darker than Zero's), though a lot was different between the two: a bulky, dark red frame on the left contrasted a slimmer dark blue one with an arm cannon on the right. To the right of them was a taller woman with darker features and a golden frame. She held a mechanical crossbow.

Alia got the group's attention again. "Now, you're probably wondering what their names are. They're rather...unusual. Especially the one on the right."

Zero raised an eyebrow. "Well, what are they?"

"Zack, Cody, and London."
