After I finished at the library I decided to take a walk to the museum, it wasn't a far walk, it was only 2 miles away from the school so I went.
I walked around the museum and was mesmerized. I'd never been to a museum before. I loved seeing all the different skeletons of different animals. And seeing the dinosaur skeletons, they were my favorite. I walked around some more to see all the different things that happened in history.
After I finished at the museum it was time to go get charlie. I ran as fast as I could but I was still a bit late. I finally made it to his school to see Charlie sitting on a bench alone.
I walked up to him "I'm so sorry I'm late" I apologized as he stood up "It's alright, where were you?" He asked as we started walking.
"I was at the library then I went to the museum because I had never been there before today" I said trying to explain myself as best as possible.
"How have you never been to the museum?" He asked in shock, I shrugged "I guess I've just never had to, I don't know" I said as I looked at him. "How was your day?" I asked genuinely curious "it was pretty good honestly" he said as we walked up his driveway. "That's good" I said as we walked into his house, he placed his stuff down as I sat down on the couch.
"Did you eat lunch?" Charlie asked as he entered the kitchen "no I haven't actually" I replied quietly. "Oh my god you have to eat, here I'll make you something" Charlie said as he opened the fridge. "Oh okay thanks" I said as I turned on the tv. "You can watch whatever you want till I'm done," Charlie said from the kitchen. "Okay thanks" I said
as I opened the peacock app and turned on the first chucky movie, and started watching.
After he finished making me food he came in and sat by me "here I made you a sandwich" he said as he handed it to me. "Thanks so much it smells good" I said with a smile before taking a bite "thanks" he replied before looking at the tv. "What are you watching?" He asked as I looked back at the tv also "oh i'm watching chucky the first one" I replied as he got up and grabbed a blanket.
"Oh I love this movie" he said as he sat down next to me "want some?" He asked as he offered me the other half of the blanket. "Yeah thanks I'm cold" I replied as I put the other half on me. "Did you know I only watched the first two movies?" I said as he turned to me in disbelief. "No? Are you kidding?" I shook my head "nope" I turned back to the tv. "My mother doesn't like horror movies so when she's fallen asleep my dad would sneak out and watch them with me, they're like my favorite thing ever" I said with a smile on my face.
After we finished the movie, Charlie turned off the tv as he turned to me. "We'll my parents aren't coming home till late tonight so you can stay longer if you'd like" Charlie said as he stood up and
put the blanket back in the blanket bin. "Why is that? I feel like your parents are never home" Charlie shrugged as he sat back down. "They do come home, they just work a lot," he replied, trying to stay calm. "I know but you say the same things every time, they 'come home late' but they never show up, do they leave you money to buy food at least?" Charlie stood up as he rolled his eyes. "I just feel like they should at least show up to have dinner with you" Charlie walked away as he grabbed a water bottle from the kitchen. "You don't have the right to tell me if my parents care or not" Charlie sounded mad, I didn't mean to offend him. Maybe I overstepped. I shouldn't have even asked. "I know I'm sorry I'm just worried about you" I apologized as he walked back over to me "well don't, i'll see you tomorrow" charlie said as he opened the door. I nodded as I walked out. I knew I messed up. I'm just worried about him. I've never even seen his parents' home.
Later that night it was getting late so I decided to stop roaming the streets and to head back to the tree by the lake. I sat down as I pulled the bottle out of my jaket, i'm so mad I made him upset. That wasn't my intention at all.
I glanced down at the bottle of alcohol I had laying on the floor. I can't believe I hurt him. I just hurt everyone around me. Why do I hurt everyone around me? God I hate myself so much.
I sighed as I got up and grabbed the bottle then I walked down the river until I saw shadow in the distance, I ignored it and kept walking.
I took a sip of the bottle as I kept walking. Why do I do this to the only people who actually care about me? They probably hate me and I don't blame them. I'm a terrible person. I don't deserve to be alive at all.
I wish I was dead.
I took my last sip of the bottle as I stood there standing in front of the river. I could jump. I could drown, it's deep enough. What if the only way to stop feeling bad is to stop feeling at all?
I stood there staring at the water just hoping maybe I'll fall in somehow and I wouldn't have to jump myself. I stood there for a while just staring at the water until I saw a young man walk out from the tree in the corner of my eye.
Charlie.
Charlie looked up at me in shock, "what are you doing here?" He asked, concerned. I looked at him then back to the lake as I took a step closer to the ledge. I looked back at the old tree with my jacket. "Please move away from the ledge James, I don't know what your intentions are but I don't like it" he said as I glanced at him, still not saying a word. "And are you drinking?" he asked me, then stared at the bottle then to the floor. "What are you doing here?" He asked again "I-um-i went for a late night walk?" Charlie sighed as he walked closer to me and took the bottle from my hands. "Stop lying to me, you're not fooling anyone" I opened my mouth like I was going to say something but decided not to. "James move away from the ledge" he begged, I shook my head "I don't want to" I reapplied, my answer short. "Please" Charlie said as he came closer to me "there's no point" I said as I turned around to face him "yes there is James" he said as he took my hand and pulled me away from the ledge.
"James are you-are you living out here?" My eyes filled with tears as I stared at him. I couldn't contain my emotions anymore.
Tears started rolling down my face as I collapsed on to the ground. "James" Charlie said as he knelt down next to me "it's okay you can tell me, I'm here for you" I sighed as I played with my bracelet on my wrist. "Yes, I am" I said quietly my voice barely above a whisper, Charlie stared at me almost in tears.
"And im sorry about everything, it's not that im suicidal, it's just hard being by yourself. It's just hard, feeling like no one cares about you, I don't want to die but I don't want to feel like this anymore" I cried, Charlie nodded. "I understand James, but I care about you and I don't want you to die either" I looked up at him, tears streaming down my face.
"I'm sorry for you to have to see my like this"
Charlie stared at me as a tear ran down his face "don't apologize you have no reason to" he said as he hugged me.
I cried on his shoulder for a second longer before pulling back "are your parents coming home? You should go" I said as I stood up. Charlie shook his head "no, I'm not leaving till I know you're safe" a small smile played on my lips as I hugged him again. "I have nowhere to go," I said quietly. Charlie put his hands on my shoulder
"Come with me you can stay in my shed for tonight and we can talk more in the morning, how does that sound?" I smiled. "Yes thank you" I said "of course now come on" Charlie said as we began walking. "It's no ordinary shed by the way" I looked at Charlie "what do you mean?" I asked as I looked back to the path where we were walking. "What I mean is, grandma used to live there. It used to be a little cottage but when she moved out we used it like a shed so there's running water, a bathroom, a bed, couch, things like that" I laughed.
"So it's basically a mini house" I said once we made it to the shed. "Yeah pretty much, the only downside is there's no shower" Charlie said as he opened the doors and we walked inside.
"I know it's not the best, but..." I interrupted him, unable to contain my excitement. "It's amazing, thank you!" I exclaimed. "I do have a question though," I continued, my voice gentle. "Yes?" Charlie replied, as we settled down on the worn-out couch in the back. "Why are you helping me?" I asked, genuinely curious. Charlie shrugged, a small smile played on his lips. "Because I'm your friend, I'm here for you and I know I just met you only a few days ago but there's just something about you-i don't know" he trailed off. My smile widened. "Thank you so much. You don't know how much that means to me. But also, can we keep this between us? I'd rather not involve your parents," I requested. Charlie nodded slightly, chuckling. "Of course. You don't know how difficult it would be to explain," he laughed. I joined in, understanding the difficulty.
"Alright I'll be right back" Charlie said as he ran out of the shed. A few minutes later he returned with a long sleeved shirt and sweatpants "here you can where this for tonight i'm going to go to bed, I'll see you in the morning" Charlie said as he began to walk out "thanks, and goodnight" I called out from behind him, Charlie turned around and smiled "goodnight" he said before shutting the door.
I sat there for a moment before I changed into the clothes and got into the bed.
Oh I missed sleeping in a bed.
I laid there staring at the ceiling before finally dozing off to sleep.
