Chapter 9: the trip day one

I woke up when I heard a noise coming from outside of the shed. I got out of bed as I threw on a hoodie Charlie had given me then walked over to the doors. I heard voices that sounded like Charlie, I quietly opened the doors as I walked over to look at him from a distance.  Charlie was sitting on the couch on the front porch. "Charlie?" I said as he turned his head to look at me "James" he said as he motioned me to come over and sit by him, so I did. "What are you doing? I thought you had school?" I asked as I sat down "no I don't have school today since it's Friday, the teachers are having a teacher day or something I dunno" charlie said. "Oh that's nice" I said with a small smile "what about you, what are you doing up, did i wake you? He asked as i shook my head "well maybe but it's okay because it's time to get up anyway" I shrugged "oh yeah, come on let's go inside, it's cold and you're not dressed appropriately for this weather" I nodded. "Yeah could I?" Charlie stood up as he held out his hand to help me up. We walked into the house, it was so warm. "Do you want some hot chocolate so we can watch a movie?" I really liked that idea! "Yes that sounds amazing" I said as I grabbed a blanket then sat down on the couch. "Did you have a movie in mind?" I asked as I turned on the tv "no not really" charlie said from the kitchen. "Alrighty then" I said as I scrolled through Netflix then prime video. "Horror movie or comedy?" I asked as I kept scrolling
"um-comedy"
"Great"
I kept scrolling till I found a comedy movie I thought looked good. Charlie walked in with two mugs and sat down next to me "what did you find?" He asked as he handed me my mug. "It's a movie called bridge of tabetha, I heard it's really sad but like-it seems cute" I said as I pressed play. "Oh sounds good" he said as I put the blanket on me and him.
"How's the hot coco?" Charlie asked as I took a sip "it's really good thanks" I said as I took another sip.
I put the hot coco down as I got comfy in the corner. I laid down a bit as Charlie got comfortable next to me.
After the movie I got up and put the blanket back where I found it in the bin.
"Do you want to do something fun?" Charlie asked as he quickly stood up "like what?" I asked excitedly. He smiled then ran upstairs as I followed behind him. He walked into his room and grabbed a bag and started putting tons of clothes into the bag.
He put shirts, pants, hoodies and a few books then some headphones.
"Come with me" he said as he grabbed my hand, we ran downstairs then we left the house. We started walking down the road. We were walking for a while now until we finally reached the bus stop "what are we doing here?" I asked as I looked at him. "When leaving this town for a bit, we need to get away and have a little fun!?" I stared at him kinda shocked, kinda excited.
"Are you kidding? How can you afford this because I know I can't" I said with a small laugh "my parents felt bad for leaving me for so long so they gave me a lot of money in return, also Lizzy may have helped out a bit" he said with a small shrug. "Oh my god you're insane" I said as he cracked a smile "oh the bus is here" he said as the bus pulled up and we got in. We walked to the middle of the bus and sat down. "Where are we going exactly and when will we be back?" I asked as he put the backpack down under the seat. "In a few days" he said as he pulled out his earbuds from the backpack and pulled his phone out of his pocket.
"A few days, what about school?"
"Screw school, I needed to get out of that small village and so did you"
I sighed because he was right. I couldn't keep sleeping in the shed, my back hurts and I get to spend a few days with Charlie alone. That sounds awesome.
After a while of sitting there staring out the window I let Charlie lean his head on my shoulder, I slowly turned my head to look at him. He fell asleep. I eventually started feeling tired also so I leaned my head on his.
"Hey kids, this is the last stop"
"Boys!"
I opened my eyes to see the driver standing in front of us "this is the last stop" he repeated himself as charlie woke up also. "Oh my god did I fall asleep?" He said as he looked at me, I smiled "it's okay" I said quietly "this is our stop anyway" he said as we both stood up and got off the bus.
"Can you tell me where we are?" I asked as we stood there on the sidewalk. "Nope, I'm calling an Uber so we can get to our hotel" he said as he pulled out his phone. "Alright then" I said with a small sigh.
Our Uber pulled up and we got in, it was a 30 minute drive to our hotel. "Alright boys you're here" he said as we came to a stop "okay thanks" he said as we grabbed his bag and we got out.  We walked into the lobby "can we get one room, two beds please?" Charlie said once we walked up to the front desk. "Sorry all the rooms with two beds are full, we have one with one bed available if that's okay? We'll make it half price," Charlie sighed as he looked back at me "fine" he said. I looked around the lobby. It was very nice, lots of cute paintings and decorations. "Come on James, let's go to our room. He said as I turned around "oh okay" I said as we started walking to the elevator. We got in as I stared at the buttons.
"What floor?"
"3rd"
I pressed the button as we stood there in silence. I notest Charlie staring at me so I looked at him, he quickly looked away. Huh that was weird, I thought to myself. We got off the elevator as Charlie led us to our room "here" he said as he swiped the card and opened the door. "Woah this is nice, how did you afford this?" I asked as I looked around. "Well let's just say my parents are really rich, how do you think they travel so much?" Charlie said as I shrugged.
"I guess that makes sense" I said as I sat down on the bed, Charlie opened the drawers and put the clothes in there. "Oh and don't worry I brought a bunch of clothes for the both of us" he said as he glanced over his shoulder to look at me. "Okay, thanks" I said with a small chuckle, I laid down on the bed with exhaustion. "What time is it?" I asked Charlie "it's 1" he replied looking at his phone. "What do you want to do first?" Charlie asked as he sat down next to me, he looked down at me as I thought about where we should go.
"Wanna go out to eat? I'm hungry" I said as I sat up "sounds like a great idea" he said with a smile as he stood up. "Let me use the bathroom real quick then we can go" he said as we walked into the bathroom. I got up as I opened one of the drawers, I reached my hand in and grabbed a jumper. It's really cold in here, for some reason, I thought.
Charlie walked out as he stared at me "it's cold in here, right?" He said as he walked over to me and grabbed a jumper also. "Seriously, I thought I was the only one," I said as he put on his jumper. "Me too, anyway come on let's go" he said as we walked to the door and left.
We started walking on the sidewalk looking at all the stores and restaurants. This place was bigger than springfield. "Okay it's this one" he said as we entered the restaurant "this place is nice too, dang" I said as charlie let out a small laugh. "I'm glad, I want this to be a time you won't forget" he said quietly as we made our way to our seats. I didn't reply, I was silent till we sat down.
What did he mean by that? We opened our menus when Charlie finally said something "you like pasta right? Because that's mainly what they serve here" he said as he looked up from the menu. "yes I do" replied as I looked back at my menu. "I think I'm going to get the alfredo, you?" I said as I put down the menu at the end on the table.
"I'm getting the spaghetti" he said as he put his menu on mine. "Wow we both got such basic food" I said as we both laughed.
"Hello I'm Lindsey I will be taking care of you today, What can I get you both?" She looked at charlie "i'm going to get the spaghetti and he's going to get the chicken alfredo" he said as she wrote it down. "Okay you food will be out shortly" she said as she walked away. "Charlie, can I ask you a question?" I asked, taking a sip of my water "of course" he said with a grin. "What was your sister like?" He smiled as he set his water down "she was incredible" he replied as I nodded. "She was always kind to me, we hardly ever fought and she was just always there for me" he said as he chuckled. "Then she left the college and I haven't seen her since" he said as he frowned slightly "why is that?" I asked curiously. "She said there's no point in coming home if our parents are never home" he said with a small shrug "I'm sorry" I said as he brushed it off. "Don't be," he said as the waiter came with our food. "she used to call, but then she stopped" he said as he looked at me. "She  doesn't care anymore" he said flatly as he took a bite of his food. "I bet she does, maybe it's just been a while and she feels like you don't care anymore because you haven't tried to call her first either" he just stared at me for a moment.
"Your right"
"I am?"
He nodded "it's not just her fault I could have reached out, but I haven't" he said as I looked at my food "I'm just like them" my eyes shot up at him. "Like who?" I asked, concerned "my dad, he never calls when he's away, even when he's home he's always too busy for me" he explained. "I'm sorry he's like that, but your nothing like him, at least you care and are worried about her" I said as he flashed a smile "thanks James" he said as I smiled back at him "of course Charlie" I said as I stared at him for a Monet before we began eating again.
After we ate we started walking down the sidewalk for a while just talking. "What's your favorite book?" I asked as we walked. "That's a hard one, probably a good girl's guide to murder or the inheritance games" he said as I stopped to look at him. "Oh my god I read both of those series when I was waiting for you to get out of school" I said as he stared at me. "I know you told me you spent your days at the library but I didn't know you meant all day," he said as we continued walking. "Yup from then time it opened till closing hours" I said with a small chuckle. "You know I'm glad we left" I said quietly as he looked at me.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah I'm really having fun with you and it's only the first day" I said as Charlie grinned like I've never seen him before. "Well I'm glad," he said as we made our way to a bookstore. "Wanna go in?" He asked as we stood in front "of course!" I said, my whole body filled with excitement. We walked into the book store and stared at all the books, this bookstore was way bigger than ours back at home. "There's so many books" I said as I stared mesmerized. "I know!" He said as we both started looking, we eventually drifted apart as we looked in different section. Me and Charlie ran into each other in the romance section "oh hi again" he said as I looked up from the book i was looking at. "Oh charlie hi" I said as I put it back "are you ready to go?" He asked, I nodded as we walked out. "OOOH! I saw a comic store on our way here, can we go!?" I asked excitedly, I had never read a comic before because I was never allowed to. Mother thought comics were childish and for baby's, but I never thought so.
"Sure of course whatever makes you happy" he said as we walked over to the comic store. We walked in as I immediately ran to the superhero's "have you ever read a comic before?" He asked confusedly as he stared at me. "Nope never! Mother prohibited it" I said as I looked back at him, Charlie stared at me with a small smile on his face. "Who's your favorite superhero?" I asked as I looked back at all the comics, but Charlie didn't reply. "charlie?" I looked back at him as he looked away "oh right sorry-I like Batman" he said as I looked back at the Batman comic. "Can I get it?" I asked, I had never asked for anything in my life before but this was my dream. I have always wanted a comic.
"Of course James" he said with a grin, I grabbed the comic as we made our way to the counter. After we paid, me and Charlie started walking back to the hotel. "Thank you so much for the comic, I'm so happy" I said with a smile on my face. "I'm glad" he said as we walked into the lobby of the hotel. We made our way to the room as we opened the door, I instantly walked in and laid down on the bed. "Are you tired?" Charlie asked as he took off his jumper "kinda" I replied as I sat up "i'm going to take a shower if that alright" he said as he grabbed his clothes. "Oh yeah go ahead" I said as I took my jumper off and put it down, then I grabbed the remote and turned on the tv.
After a little while Charlie came out and put his clothes on the dresser so we could go wash them tomorrow. "I'm exhausted" he said as he came and sat by me "what are you watching?" He asked as he looked at the tv then his eyes drifted to me. "Oh I have no idea it was whatever was on tv" I said as I looked at him "oh okay" he said, a small smile played on his lips. "We'll It's late so I'll let you sleep" he said he placed his phone on the side table and turned off his lamp. "Alright thanks" I said as I turned off the tv then the lamp. "Goodnight charlie" I said quietly as I turned around "goodnight James" he said as I slowly drifted off to sleep.
