~ THREE MONTHS LATER ~
"Violet."
"Hmmm."
"Viiiiiolet."
"What!"
"Wake up, babe."
"Why?" She whined.
"Mom called she wants you to come shopping with her today." He said, laying next to her.
"When?" She asked, burying her head in his neck.
"She said 2 o clock."
"But Michael. I'm a cow I don't fit in anything!" She started crying.
"Hey,hey calm down. Stop crying. You're not a cow. You're pregnant. With my child. " He laughed, kissing her and wiping her tears.
"Whatever." She pushed him away and covered herself with the blanket.
"Hey! Be nice, babe. Go get ready."
"No." She cried.
"You're so damn hormonal." He whined.
"No I'm not! "She shouted.
"Hey Violet?" He lifted the blanket and revealed her face.
"What!" She cried.
"I loooove you." He said, kissing her again.
"I love you too," she said, wiping her face and hugging him, " I'm sorry I'm so hormonal."
"It's okay baby. Go get ready please." She begged.
"K." She kissed him. As soon as her lips met his again, she felt sick. She rushed to the bathroom and threw up. Luckily, she made it to the toilet in time. He ran after her and held her hair back.
"Yuck." She said, flushing and brushing her teeth. He stood next to her holding a small bag. He shook it at her.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Lauren helped me pick it. I figured you'd like her taste. She opened the bag and inside was a necklace that's said "To the moon" on a small half moon.
"Thank you." She smiled, kissing him once again.
"Go pick clothes." He said.
"You." She frowned, starting the shower and taking her shirt off.
"Fine, I'll pick your clothes." He whined. She slipped out of her shorts that hardly covered anything and got into the shower before Michael returned. He came back with a pair of skinny jeans, a white t-shirt and a red and black flannel.
"Happy?" He asked.
"Mmhm." She said, peeking out the curtain of the shower. She finished showering, got completely ready, and went to meet his mom at her house.
She got off the bus, payed the fare, and knocked on the door, which was cracked open a bit.
"Karen," she said, knocking. She heard Karen's voice say "Come in" and entered the house. As she turned the corner into the living room, she wasn't prepared for what happened next.
"Surprise!" She heard the voices of at least 30 women shout. Karen took her hand and led her to a seat.
"What is this?" Violet asked.
"It's your baby shower, silly." Karen explained.
"Oh, Karen. You didn't have to do this. I don't... I don't know any of these people." She said, awkwardly.
"It's okay, Dear this is Michael and My family. My sisters and Nieces and family friends."
"Thank you." She said, her face burning red with embarrassment.
Karen introduced everyone and then began doing the things you do at a baby shower. Food, Gifts, the works.
"Thank you all so much for the gifts." Violet said.
There were many answers of "Thank you for having us" and "congratulations sweetheart". After everyone left, she helped Karen clean up.
"Thank you for the baby shower, Karen." She smiled.
"You're so welcome, Sweetheart. Thank you for cleaning up!" She smiled.
"You're welcome. Do you mind if I keep some of these boxes upstairs? Until the baby gets here?"
"Of course that's fine. Let me help you get them up there!" She said. They each grabbed a box and carefully walked it up the stairs. On Violets 2nd trip down, she tripped on her feet and fell, her stomach hitting the bottom stair as she landed on the floor.
"Violet! Are you okay?" Karen asked, running to help her up.
"Y-yes in fine. Im....I'm fine." She stood up and Karen led her to the couch.
"We have to call Michael." Karen said.
"No. Karen please promise me you won't tell him. He cannot know I fell. I just need to go get checked. Make sure everything is okay." She explained.
"Let me drive you sweetheart." She said, helping her up and to the vehicle. They drove to the emergency room while Violet layed back, trying to control her pain.
"Are you alright?" She asked.
"Yes. I'm fine. I'm fine."
They pulled into the emergency room and rushed inside.
"What seems to be the problem?" The nurse that took them back asked.
"I fell down the stair." She explained.
"And how far along are you?" He asked.
"33 weeks."
"How old are you?" He asked, marking on a piece if per as she answered.
"I'm 18. Can you just tell me if the baby is okay? That's why I'm here. I'm not even worried about the pain." She explained.
"I'll tell the doctor to come see you as soon as possible. But first, do you mind of I take a look? " he asked.
"No, not at all." She smiled. He pulled her shirt up to reveal that her hip and side had a huge bruise. He pushed, to feel for broken ribs.
She winced at the pain.
"No broken ribs. Let me go get the doctor to see about your baby." He smiled. In about ten minutes, they were taken to the maternity wing of the hospital, where they were taken into an Ultrasound room. There, they were met by a Doctor who gave her an Untrasound.
"The good news is, you're okay. No bones broken." He said.
"Oh thank god." Karen said.
"Bad news?" Violet asked.
"The bad news is the way the baby is resting isn't normal."
"So what are you saying?" She asked.
"I'm saying there is a possibility that you miscarried your baby. I'm sorry." He explained.
"W-what? No. No I couldn't have. I didn't bleed or...no way." She said.
"I'm afraid it is a possibility. Sadly, we don't have the technology here to figure that out for sure."
"So what now?" Karen asked
"I'm going to set you up with asked specialist. Someone who can get you in as soon as possible. In the mean time you need to be extremely careful. No lifting. Not very much movement of any kind. Walking of course is fine. Make sure you're eating alot of healthy foods. Nothing tough or too greasy."
"I'm a vegetarian." She explained.
"Okay then. Now another thing, stay away from stressful situations. Stress can be the main cause of miscarriage."
"O-okay." She said, tears running down her face.
"Thank you." Karen smiled.
"Oh and as for your pain, I'm giving you a mild pain killer. Take one pill every 12 hours until they're all gone or until you don't need them anymore. Ill be setting you up an appointment with your specialist. Take care now." He said, leaving the room.
"I'm so sorry Karen. H-how am i going to tell Michael. He was so happy i...how am i going to tell him." She cried
"It'll be okay, dear. Michael loves you. And he would still love you if there was no baby. Let me take you home." She said.
"No I can take the bus!" She smiled.
"Please let me take you. I don't want you on the bus at this late at night." She insisted. They finally agreed and Karen gave her a ride home. When she got there she thanked Karen and went into the house.
"Violet!" Michael shouted when she walked in the door.
"What is it? Why are you crying?" She asked.
"Violet my dad's been in an accident. They don't know if he's going to make it. I-i have to go see him." He hugged her.
"Okay okay calm down. Where is he?"
"He's in London. Violet I have to go see him." He cried.
"Hey its alright. Go see your dad. Should I come with you?" She asked.
"No baby its... it's really bad. I think...you don't need to see that. H-how was your day with mom?" He asked, trying to get it together.
"Baby we don't have to talk about that right now. Go see your dad."
"Thank you love," he kissed her, "I'll call you as soon as I get there." He kissed her again.
"Okay." She smiled. He put his hands on her belly.
"I love you." He whispered.
"I love you too." She whispered back, kissing him one more time. He walked out the door, bags in hand, and left for London, just like that.
"Hey buddy." Luke said as she walked down the stairs.
"Hey Luke."
"It's terrible about Michaels dad isn't it? I hope he's okay." He said, sitting next to her on the couch. In came Ashton.
"Hey, Love. How was your day with Karen?" He asked.
"It was great." Is all she said.
"Iht hope Michael will be okay." Ashton said. This made Violet start crying.
"Hey, hey. What's the matter?" Luke asked sitting up and rubbing her back.
"Nothing." She cried.
"Don't lie to us Violet. What's wrong."
"K-k-karen threw a baby shower f-for me and I was going down the stairs and...it fell." She touched her side. Ashton grabbed her shirt and pulled it up, revealing the black, purple, and yellow mess of bruises that covered the area.
"Oh my god. Are you okay." Ashton asked.
"No. Not really. Ashton the baby." She cried.
"You didn't... Did you lose the baby Violet?" Luke asked.
"They said that it was a very likely possibility. The baby is laying in a position that indicates that it's dead. But they don't know for sure. I'm going to a specialist."
"Does Michael know?" He asked
"No. No I couldn't tell him. After his dad I just...I couldnt." He put his arms around her and wiped her tears away.
"It alright. You're going to be fine. Everything is going to be fine." He played with her hair. He and Luke sat and comforted her until they all three fell asleep on the couch.
The next morning, she woke up to a phone call. Luke was already gone and Ashton was still asleep.
"Hey Violet," Karen said, "Your appointment is today at noon."
"Okay. Thank you."
"Do I need to take you?"
She looked over at Ashton who was just waking up and he shook his head no.
"Um...no I think...I think Ashton is gonna take me. If that's okay with you?" She asked.
"No that's fine. Just let me know how it goes love."
"I will Karen." Then hung up. A few minutes later, her phone rang again. It was Michael.
"Hey baby. I made it to London."
"Good. How's your dad?" She asked.
"He's good. He's stable but he's going into surgery in about an hour. How is everything there? Did you sleep well?" He asked.
"Yeah I guess. So your dad is okay now?"
"Yes he's okay. What's wrong? You sound scared."
"I have to tell you something. You have to promise not to freak out."she said.
"What is it baby?" He asked
"Michael the other night I fell."
"Oh no. Are you okay?"
"Yes. I'm fine. But they think-"
"Baby I'm so sorry I have to go. They just said dad isn't doing well."
"Okay baby."
"I love you so much."
"I love you too Michael."
"Why didn't you tell him?" Ashton asked.
"I couldn't. His dad isn't doing well and he's stressed out. I can hear it in his voice. I'm worried about him."
"He'll be fine. Michael always holds up. You need to stop worrying. It's bad for the baby." He said.
"Ashton what if there is no baby anymore. She could be dead." He turned her around facing away from him.
"Listening to me," he started rubbing her shoulders, "you're going to be fine. Michael is going to be fine, and so is the baby."
"What if-"
"No what if's. Let's just be positive, happy. What time is it. Tenish? Let's go get ready, get something to eat, and I'll take you to your doctor's appointment." He said. She nodded. He leaned forward, still rubbing her shoulders, and kissed her neck one time, then stood up. She sat there for a moment, then headed to her room to change. She quickly showered and got ready the rest of the way. When she was finished, she went back to the main house and into Ashton's room. He was wearing only his pants, his hair dripping wet from the shower.
"Um. Im....we can...leave." she stuttered, struggling to look away from his exposed torso.
"What's wrong with you" he asked.
"I...er..." she stopped talking and started to leave the room. He quickly pulled on a shirt and grabbed her arm.
"What is with you?" He asked.
"I said nothing." She answered coldly.
"Why does this bother you so much?"
"What?"
"My body. Is something wrong with it?" His eyes met hers.
"N-no."
"Then what is it?"
"Its...it's perfect." She muttered. He stared at her for a moment and without warning, his lips crashed into hers. She kissed him back until she realized what she was doing. She pushed him away and rushed out of the room.
"Violet wait." He started, but decided to leave it alone. She ran down stairs and pulled herself together and sat, waiting fir Ashton.
"Ready to go?" He asked, coming down the stairs. She nodded. They went to the car and left the house.
"What do you want for breakfast?" He asked. She shrugged.
"I'm not really hungry." She sighed.
"I promised Michael I'd make you eat. And besides, you're feeding two people now."
"I might not be." She said.
"You Are." He answered surely.
They went to IHOP and had an awkwardly silent breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon and the other breakfast necessities. When they finished, he payed the bill and they left.
"Listen, Violet. I'm sorry about...earlier." he said in the car, breaking the silence.
"Ashton, don't." She said.
"I just-"
"You don't have to explain. It's okay." She smiled.
When they got to the doctor, they had no wait, and we're rushed right in.
"Violet, I heard about what happened. How are you?" Barbara asked.
"I'm holding up. Is my baby okay?" She asked.
"Were gonna find out. Lay back." She did as she was told and the doctor lifted up her shirt, pushing down on different stops. She reached a stop that made Violet jump.
"Owww." She tried not told yell.
"That hurts?" She asked.
"Yes, bad."
"Okay. I'm gonna push there one more time, just to make sure nothing is severely wrong." Violet nodded. The doctor pushed again, this time harder.
"Aahhh." She wailed out in pain, grabbing Ashton's hand.
"Violet, I need to do as 3D Untrasound immediately."
"What why? What's wrong?" Ashton asked.
"Just comfort her."
She pulled Violets shirt up and began the Untrasound.
"Violet. I have good news and bad news." Barbara said.
"What? What's the news?" She panted, still in pain.
"Good news, your baby girl is okay."
"Oh thank God." Ashton said, relief inn his voice.
"Bad news is, the baby is developing slowly. She should be bigger at this stage in fetal development "
"So what does that mean exactly?" She asked.
"That means you have to be extra careful. Make sure you take your vitamins everyday and make sure you're eating enough. Get plenty of rest but also, be active."
"Okay. Thank you so much, Barbara."she smiled.
The ride home, again was silent. When they got home, she went straight for her room.
"Violet wait a minute," Ashton called, chasing after her. She ran inside and into the bathroom, locking the door behind her.
