Growing up, Maryanne Peregrine and her mother were never rich to begin with, they couldn't even afford simple necessities. Yet Mary was an extraordinary person, some could even say she has "Heaven-to-Earth" and a "soul capturing beauty" since Mary has short jet black hair, "Black as the night" eyes, and the most captivating of all, her cherry red lips, some even think that Mary's lips weren't naturally red but she proved them wrong.

Mary was raised by her mother (mostly) growing up since, her father never cared for her and left them for another woman, so the only time Mary saw her father is when she was 4 years old, and the only things she heard her father say was "you'll never be good enough, woman" or "your a useless prick, you know that right?", all those cruel words scar her heart, yet she doesn't even ponder about her father anymore, she seldomly talks about him and doesn't bring up the topic to her mother since she knows her mother is always abused by her father as well, so it's about time to not think about him...For the sake of her mother.

Today is another day, of begging in the streets trying to find a job or at least some money for food because as I said, they don't have enough money to buy basic necessities so they sometimes have to go hungry for a week or so, but Mary had a burning passion to write, it has always been her dream to write a letter or even write a book like her favorite author "Charles Dickens" and usually there's a nearby library around which has free books so Mary would spend 3 hours reading books and learning how to write through books since her mother can't afford basic education as well since after Mary's father left her, he took every single bit of money saved up by Mary's mother herself.

But right now, while Mary and her mother was walking around the streets Mary suddenly asked "Mother, have you tried looking for a job?...Like a simple job as a maid for a royal or a duke or even a duchess?" Mary asks in a curious and soft tone

"I seldom doing that, I haven't even seen a Duke or a King or a Duchess even need more maids anyways....So I'm afraid not, why do you ask my dear?" Mary's mother asks in a kind and warm tone as she smiles at her daughter who's always brimming with curiosity and wonders

"I always see Dukes, Kings, And even a duchess look for more maids! One time a Duke was strolling around looking for a maid so I signed you up for the job and the Duke is still processing it!" Mary says in a cheerful and sweet tone, shocking almost everyone who heard it, and everyone started whispering to each other.

"A child managed to do that?"

"How can a child of a lowlife managed to even do that?"

"Y-you really did that for me my dear?...." Mary's mother asked in a shocked yet happy tone since this is the first time she's going to work for a noble and she and Mary might even get a better life, a better house, better education, and even a brighter and better future for Mary!

"Of course I did mother!" Mary giggles a bit in happiness "I always appreciate the fact you do everything to discipline me and make me a good person so I wanted to return the favor to you!" Mary says in a very sweet and cheerful tone with her face brimming more with happiness!

Moreover, the mother was naturally happy and proud to have such a sweet and caring daughter by her side.

                                                 <...Sooner or later...>

everyone who heard it started spreading it around ton and sooner or later the mother was bombarded with many questions, but the question that intrigued many people is "How did your child learn how to speak formal English if you don't have much money Mrs. Peregrine?"

"Well, my daughter would always visit the library, even the librarian starts to get used to seeing Mary all the time, I'm proud of my daughter, ad even if we're poor and lowlifes we're always a happy family..." Mary's mother says in a soft and warm tone as she continues to smile at her daughter

                                                      <...The next day...>

Mary was just in the library reading one of Charles Dickens' book named "Bleak house" and Mary was just enjoying her free time when....

The Duke of Norway arrived once again,

A guard announced "Presenting the Duke of Norway Duke Ludwig and his daughter Cecilia!" and Duke Ludwig and his daughter Cecilia step out of the carriage when suddenly Cecilia asks her father "Daddy, why are we here?! you told me we'll buy a new horse!!" Cecilia asks in an angry tone and throws a tantrum in front of the townspeople "Sweetheart, Daddy's busy right now since we're going to pick up our new maid, and don't worry, Daddy will buy you a new horse again okay?" Duke Ludwig says in an embarrassed tone since he thought his daughter will behave properly today, after the promise they made earlier.

Cecilia wasn't exactly that beautiful, since Cecilia had natural curly blonde hair and an innocent appearance but don't get fooled my dear reader, she can throw very bad temper tantrums leading to some of her nanny's past "incidents" with her when she threw temper tantrums, and to add all that, Cecilia always wants to have everything her way because if she doesn't, things will get very very messy, not even words or actions could describe on what happened to her last horse since the last horse didn't comply to her...

Let's just say, the last horse never came back out alive.

Then Duke Ludwig then announces his new maid is.... "Mrs. peregrine!" Duke Ludwig shouts in a friendly tone and Mary's mother and Mary left the library and went up to the Duke and bowed down in respect "No need to bow down! its fine!" Duke Ludwig says in a friendly tone and Mary and her mother stand back up and ride the carriage with the Duke and his daughter back to Norway to introduce them to the other workers and maids there.

"Off we go!" Mary says in a cheerful tone and waves goodbye to the librarian and the neighbors as the carriage leaves until it's out of sight.

Off to a new adventure!
