Chapter 1
(Amber POV)
I graduated from Everrealm Academy early and was now working under my parents until they step down and I become Queen. The Kingdom of Enchancia was thriving, I just wish the same could be said for our family. I hadn't seen James in a year and Sofia for longer but, today it was going to be different. Today James was coming home. I couldn't wait to see him, I missed my twin and with Sofia disappearing from her protector duties, I have come to realize that I needed my brother much more than I ever let on before. I watched as two horses appeared on the horizon and I couldn't help but smile.
He got closer and joy overtook me I saw him in his armor as he got off his horse and took off his helmet and bowed. "Hey big sis," I wrapped my arms around him and he gave me a hug back, "I see you missed me." He said and I sighed, "Shut up your ruining the moment." I then saw the man that was ridding next to him. He got off his horse and faced me going into a deep bow, "Crown Princess Amber" His voice was deep. He had dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. He wore a blue coat and had a brown bag across his shoulder filled with potions whiled he carried another bag filled with his belongings over his shoulder. I curtseyed toward him. "Amber," my attention turned toward James, "you remember Dez." My eyes widened. Prince Desmond. My Desmond. I never was able to tell him about my big crush on him. I could feel a blush reach my cheeks as I smiled, "It is good to see you again." He nodded, "You as well." "Dezzie, here is my official alchemist," James said slinging an arm around Desmond as he turned toward us. "Congratulations" I mustered out. I forced a smile on my face and saw Desmond was not meeting my gaze. "Please follow me, James and I will give you a tour." He nodded and followed us as we began walking around the palace.
I led James to his room, "You should unpack I will see you at dinner." He smiled toward me, "Yeah, I think I'm going to get some shut eye and come out later. Maybe you can help me unpack after dinner?" "I would love too," He closed the door and I saw Desmond. He had been quiet since he came here and I couldn't tell if it was because he was still shy or if I had done something wrong. I couldn't think of anything that I had done wrong toward him but I wasn't sure. We walked in silence as I showed him his room, "I hope this is to your liking, it is close to the library if you are still interested in that sort of thing and it is really close to the elevator for the observatory," He faced me and gave me a half smile, "Thank you Princess Amber." He placed down the heavy bag that was over his shoulder and stretched out his back. "I will have a maid come fetch you when dinner is ready" I said looking down at the ground. "Alright," was all the response I received.
I closed the door and could feel my face growing red. I haven't felt like this in ages. I walked back to my room and began making preparations for dinner but, Desmond still hadn't left my mind and I couldn't help but smile because of it.
(Desmond POV)
I was excited to be assigned to James and I was even excited about being assigned to Enchancia. What I wasn't looking forward to was seeing Amber again. I hadn't seen or heard from her since we graduated from Royal Prep and I had to prepare myself to see her happy with someone else. She was beautiful and popular on the surface but when you looked beyond that you could see a strong, confident princess who was born to be a leader and had a good heart under all the ballgowns and tiaras. I was privileged to see that briefly but, my window has been closed and sealed shut for a long time.
James and I arrived at the castle and Amber was there looking as perfect as ever waiting for us. I let James and Amber have their sibling reunion as I focused on getting my bag off my horse. I then saw Amber set her sights on me and I was able to get a better look at her. She was in a dark blue gown and had her hair up with a relatively simple tiara that was ornamented in sapphires. It suited her I thought. I went into a deep bow, "Crown Princess Amber." I could tell she was surprised by how deep my voice was. She curtseyed. James broke the silence, "Amber you remember Dez." I rolled my eyes at the old nickname but was curious to see how Amber's eyes had grown and a blush spread across her face, "It is good to see you again." When she said that I felt my heart skip a beat but I quickly gave a nod. I couldn't fall for her, not again. "You as well," I spoke. I felt James' arm on my shoulder, "Dezzie here is my official alchemist." Amber softly spoke, "Congratulations" and smiled. I looked down at the ground. "Please follow me, James and I will give you a tour," I silently nodded and followed them.
They showed me around the castle and Amber stopped at James' room first before guiding me to mine. She opened the door and I looked around the suite. It would be a nice place to live for the year while I worked with James "I hope this is to you liking," Amber started, "it is close to the library if you are still interested in that sort of thing and it is really close to the elevator for the observatory." I had to respond. I settled for a half smile but still spoke, "Thank you Princess Amber." I placed down my bag and turned toward my bed. "I will have a maid come fetch you when dinner is ready." I didn't turn around to see her again, "Alright." I heard the door close and I plopped on the bed. I needed to be strong. I had a silly childhood crush, I could easily get over this. I just can't get too invested, "One year Des, one year here and then you are off. James is going to stay and if he needs me I will help but, I won't sit and watch as Amber is madly in love with someone else." I spoke to myself. I stared at the ceiling and was contemplating what to do until I hear a knock on the door for dinner.
