Chapter 15:
(Amber POV)
I still had not heard from Desmond nor had I sent word to him but I was trying not to worry. I knew that he would have come up with a brilliant strategy to avoid too many loses and that he would do everything in his power to keep everyone safe. I just hoped this rule also applied to himself. I had been continuing to preform my tasks for the day that I split with Daddy but, I also made the rounds daily talking to the people of Coumure. When I talked to the sick and injured I could feel their sense of pride and joy in the fact that finally action was being taken against their oppressors (as they had put it). It made me even more proud than I thought possible in Desmond.
I had rearranged my schedule to preform all my task in the morning so that, after my rounds, I could spend more time with the kids that had come over. They were so terrified when they first arrived and I couldn't blame them but, I tried to put them at ease to the best of my ability. They were so surprised when at their first dinner here at how much food we had that if both filled and saddened my heart. I tried my best to ease their minds and provide them with simple comforts and I grew to have more fun with them as they trusted me more. We played games with each other, the would tell me about their families and their lives back home. I enjoyed their company more than I ever thought I would. I would visit the children who were living in the village as well and make sure that everyone was being well provided for and to help compensate the families that had taken them in. Everything seemed to be running smoothly on my end and I only had to wait for things to run smoothly on his.
At night though, that was when I no longer had any other form of distraction and when worry would worm its way to the forefront of my mind. It was in moments like this when I would think back on his promises to me. First that he would never leave me. Second that we had not said goodbye but rather see you later. I just needed to wonder when later was. That night I ended up staying awake unable to quiet my thoughts so I resided up in the observatory with my sextant in hand. I watched as sun began to rise and couldn't help but feel like something big was going to happen today.
(Desmond POV)
I watched as the sun came over the trees. The light had began to shine long before it reached this height but, this was the first glimpses of sunlight I would see that day and I wanted to remember it. I wanted to remember the dawn of the day my parents would be bested and paid for their crimes. I wanted to remember the dawn of the day my kingdom took a step towards a better life for all of us. I wanted to remember the dawn of the day that meant I was closer to getting home to Amber than I had been in a long time. I was ready... we were ready for this I thought as I looked around at everyone preparing themselves for the potential battle. Our 1st regiment member was saddling up his flying horse waiting for the moment when he could take off and guard the sky. The other members of the regiment were putting on the armor that they had and were waiting for the time to strike.
Worry began to set it as we had no way of knowing if all the regiments made it to their points, without complication or being discovered. Knots formed in my stomach at the thought that they might have been hurt or dead and we wouldn't know until my parents escaped using the gap they left behind. None of them deserved this. They didn't deserve having to face war over their kingdom providing for them. They didn't deserve having to send their children away to protect them from the events that were about to transpire. They didn't deserve a lot of what life had given them, but they deserved this chance. This chance at a new life and a new beginning and I was going to do everything I could to give it to them.
I watched as the soldier on the flying horse went up into the air and waited for his signal. He reflected the light of the sun down towards us with his sword and we knew that the 6 other regiments had reached their destinations and we began to advance. Due to our position were were able to make it to the castle walls with little resistance. The few soldiers we ran into, saw that they were outnumbered and quickly yield feeling no sense of loyalty toward a King and Queen that wouldn't provide for them. We made our way until we were outside the gate of the castle.
