WHAT HAVE WE BECOME?
Silently going through social media in the middle of the night
Disturbing images and visuals capture my sight
Not a single day goes by,
Without having to say goodbye.
What have we become?
Women live in fear
It roams everywhere,in the atmosphere.
The beauty kit in their handbags are replaced by weapons.
Weapons of mass distraction because they never know when the next war happens,
They never know when the invader will invade.
They never know when the intruder will intrude.
What have we become?
“I was murdered because he couldn't take rejection”
“I was raped because I was wearing a mini skirt”
“I was a victim of rape and it wasn't a stranger”
Every day,week,month,year
These statements are plastered on t-shirts during protests
With beautiful young girls and women above the statements,
Beautiful young souls…lost
What have we become?
“I'm a survivor but my predator roams freely in the streets”
“My daughter went missing since she was 13,she could've turned 22 today “
“I will never love again,if that was love”
How do we feel?
What have we become?
Our women's lives seem to be worth a mere dime,in a world of billionaires.
“My son is innocent,he would never do that!”
“She's lying! She's a …..!”
“Well, why didn't she report it earlier?”
“Innocent until proven guilty!”
How have we reached this point?
How can we not believe our young women and girls?
How can we stand with the perpetrator?
What have we become?
WHERE IS HUMANITY?
