"We never shape the world...the world shapes us."
-Toni Morrison

A somber mood hangs over the village like an overcast sky. The bones and clothes of Chief Stoick the Vast's son, Hiccup, were discovered in the southern woods of Berk the day after he was named the Champion of Dragon Training. While the boy was a nuisance and a sorry excuse for a Chief's son, he was still a boy. A viking funeral was held in Hiccup's honor and Chief Stoick was besides himself, regretting the years he lost with his son. Another village member felt a deep feeling of regret and even guilt for ostracizing the poor boy who was her age. Astrid Hofferson shed a silent tear for a boy she never cared to be acquainted with and knew the rest of the village carried a similar weight on their conscience. The girl quickly wiped away the rogue tear to avoid showing weakness and straightened her shoulders, for she was the future of Berk now and Odin help her if she disappointed her village.
