Whatever happened at the CDC seemed to be long forgotten as the group spent another week on the road. They were hungry, tired and absolutely sick of having no place to go. They've tried their luck in Atlanta, in the place that scavengers have found last time when they visited the city. Rick described it as some retirement home run by few Latin men. To their unpleasant surprise all they've found at that place were small herds of roaming corpses. That was the exact reason why they ended up hitting the road once again.

They tried their best to reduce their use of gas, making Daryl hop on his bike and spearing a seat in the RV for Kai. Younger didn't know how to feel about being separated from the Dixon. He haven't really spoke with anyone beside Dale and Daryl, so spending few hours without Dixon by his side was quite unpleasant. Although lack of Kai's presence haven't seemed to be a problem in Daryl's case. After the CDC situationship between them was quite hard to describe. They've been talking, sometimes even laughing, but the overall vibe was just off. Sometimes Daryl would glare at Kai with certain expression which seemed to be absolutely impossible to interpret by the younger. Dixon's face looked like some weird mix of care, confusion and worry. He was staring at Kai much more often than usually, making Kim feel hella uneasy.

Their road trip seemed to stretch in time. Every minute felt like an hour. That was until the RV has suddenly stopped. A grey smoke started spreading around their truck. The engine has gave up, same way as it did at least eight times this week.

"Shit..." Glen cursed as he got out of the vehicle with duck tape in his hand. His way of dealing with broken cars was absolutely amusing to Kai.

Knowing damn well that this stop will take a while, he also got outside, carefully observing his surroundings. They were stuck on a highway which was filled with abandoned cars, most of them being filled to the limit with various things.

Kai reached to his pocked, taking out a cigarette pack which seemed to be a perfect activity for now. Grey smoke filled his lungs, creating a gentle smile on his face. Smoking always felt good to him, being his first and for some time, only addiction. Along with others Kim started scavenging the cars. As soon as he opened the drivers doors of the nearest vehicle a mummified corpse slipped to the road right in front of his feet. Trying to ignore the disgust he got into the car and took the dead man's seat. To his pleasant surprise, the guy must've been a smoker, as the passenger seat had few packs of tobacco goods thrown on it. Along with that he had found few protein bars, painkillers and little amount of weed which seemed to wink at him in a flirtatious way. Kai quickly looked around and when his eyes weren't able to find any sight of Daryl, he pocketed his findings. He wasn't sure if Dixon would even care about him owning any kinds of drugs anymore. After all the shadow of their unpleasant talk was still haunting him. Actually, Kai wasn't sure if Daryl cared at all. Lately it was extremely hard to read the older.

Kim sighed heavily and left the car. He could see Carl who was happily heading towards his parents with a bag of throwing knifes in his hands.

"I found the arsenal." He smiled to Kai, making him feel a bit ashamed. While a fucking kid brought a whole lot of useful shit, all that he – as an adult – has found were cigarettes and weed. This whole situation perfectly defined his role in the group. Absolutely useless.

Kai wasn't given to watch Carl any longer as some arms suddenly dragged him to the ground. He was about to let out a scream, but another hand has covered his mouth. Luckily as soon as Kim turned towards his attacker he has realized it was just Daryl. Older man pinned him to the warm concrete just before pulling a body of dead walker on top of him. Before Kai was able to ask what the hell was Daryl's problem, a mass of walkers appeared out of nowhere, surrounding them from every possible side. Kim gasped in panic. The dead stumbled through the highway, avoiding stepping on them just by millimeters. Kai could feel the touch of roamer's shoes creasing his skin, making his body shake slightly. He could feel his blood becoming cold as more and more walkers passed by them. He tried his best to shut down the marathon of thoughts that ran through his head. Air around them became thick, attacking their nostrils with an awful smell of rotting corpses. It was hard to breath and even harder to stay still as the dead still haven't noticed them.
