Daniella's Pov

2 Months later...

Matteo was discharged from the hospital, just three days after saving him from death's door. To be honest, I don't wish to ever see him in the state I've seen him in the past two months, and I don't wish it upon my worst enemy.

Mom always said that she could never understand how I am able to dissect a human brain or nervous system but cannot handle the Mafia life or even big situations in life for that matter.

Rafael and I decided to take care of Matteo at home in Lisbon instead of in the hospital. Our initial plan was to move Matteo to Albania as soon as he was able to travel, but mom advised against it. We were also afraid that someone would discover he was still alive, so Lisbon is an ideal place to hide for a while.

Rafael has helped so much, and Matteo and I are beyond thankful that he never gave up looking for him. He is someone that will make jokes and seek fun in everything and can be annoying at times, but he has a heart of gold. Everything he does for us comes from a place of love. That's why I struggle to say no to him.

Matteo was unable to speak for six weeks because of the injuries sustained to his face and the fact that his jaw was wired shut, much to his annoyance. I could see at times he was so frustrated that he just slept most of the time.

The spinal injury healed quicker than expected and so did his injured limbs, which he could thank his lucky stars were clean breaks and not splintered fractures or the injuries would have taken way longer to heal as it would have required screws, plates and pins to promote bone growth.

Luckily, no permanent scars will be left after he fully recovers.

By the time the wires came off his jaw, he couldn't wait to go brush his teeth a few times to kiss me. Even though the first time was still a little tricky due to his stiff jaw muscles.

I've been helping him with exercises and stretches that promote muscle recovery that would not hurt or damage his healing limbs. He has been eating like a dog to gain more weight and because he missed out on solid food for so long.

We had a tutor from Albania fly in to homeschool the boys so that they stay on par with their education. They were very happy knowing their dad was still alive, but sad seeing him so hurt during his recovery. They went through a whole attitude change and have become more mature and understanding for their age.

Mom eventually decided to buy the house because my mother doesn't like us living in other people's homes and the other reason was that we had to make some security changes.

Our family travelled between Lisbon, Albania and the US. Matteo's mother has also been staying with us, not wanting to part with him after almost losing him.

We could have continued his recovery in Albania, but it was better living in a place where the outside world didn't who we were.

The weather has been getting warmer each day and the boys can't wait to take their first dip in the gorgeous pool once the weather is warm enough.

My dad and Julian came for a few days after we notified the family to come and see Matteo in the flesh and then left to make sure Matteo's business stays afloat. I have to say that Julian has also grown a lot since everything happened with Matteo and it's refreshing to see.
