chapter 2

Valentino's POV

"shadow, stoop.." I mumbled in a sleepy tone as he kept petting me. I was getting sleepier and sleepier, I even started to lean against his leg, what the hell was wrong with me!? I wrapped my tail around his leg and started to lay down next to his feet, he kneeled down and rubbed the side of my head, I began to purr loudly, rubbing against his hand. I don't why but his hand was so soft and warm. I fell asleep after a while, purring but I can still feel shadow petting me, this is the first time I ever seen him gently towards me, despite our hatred, he's caring after me..

Shadow's POV

I find him cute sometimes, but of course I keep that hidden to myself, I picked him up again and brought him to the sleeping bag inside the tent, I sat down and laid him with him against my chest. I slowly fell asleep, but I was still subconsciously rubbing his back and head gently passing my fingers through his fur, trancing the hearts on his fur coat, playing with his tail

Next morning

Valentino's POV

We all woke up and packed, he headed out back to hiking again..ugh. I hate hiking honestly, mainly because a kid is with us, she could fall and get injured. I hope she doesn't though..i still a bit sleepy but I just kept eating the apple I had while walking with the crew calmly. Where did this fox go exactly. We kept walking through the forest calmly until I heard something beyond the trees.

"Guys wait, I heard something..." I said, shadow stopped but the others kept going, they probably didn't hear me.

"What did you hear?" Shadow asked with a raised eyebrow in confusion

"I don't know what it was but it sounded weird" I replied, looking around, trying to see what it was..I see a shadow behind the a tree, i swallowed hard as tho i felt a familiar presence, I went silent..which concerned him.

Shadow's POV

I was concerned when he went quiet, I grabbed his shoulder and gently shook him with snapped him back into reality with a gulp..but why? Whatever, it wasn't my business. I noticed the others were ahead, I spoke to him

"Val, come on, let's go before we lose the others" I let him go and walked back to the others, catching up with them, he caught up with them too but he stood silent for some reason. I didn't ask why, maybe these forests brought up something bad in his memories, I didn't want to be in his business..nor did I want a sob story.We kept walking around the forest being as calm as possible. I kept an eye on him, glancing over my shoulder to check on him. At one point, I saw him rubbing his arm, so I gently took his hand into mines and kept him next to me, I did this so he won't be nervous or scared. Whatever happened to him back then must have been painful if he's this nervous. He's never nervous on a mission so this surprised me at lot but I minded my business, maybe he's just joking..I hope he is, but I still have questions about that collar, it didn't have his heart symbol with a hole in it, but it had a ghost symbol on jt and i never met anyone who owned a ghost symbol. I was tempted to ask about it but I held myself quiet, tho I was very curious about it, I hoped he'd explain it at one point.
