A notification dings from my phone while I'm watching Modern Family. Oreo, my cute little dog beside me, sniffing my phone out of curiosity. I pick it up and my heart drops.

Josh.

_joshy  (Josh Dela Cerna) •

_joshy: Hey.

Me: Hi

_joshy: How've you been?

Me: Good, you?

_joshy: Missing you.

My heart flutters. Josh is the type to flirt openly, either platonically or genuinely. With me, he often does the latter.

Me and Josh met two years ago, six months before Satan came. We hit it off instantly.

Long story short, we liked eachother. And on the day I planned on telling him about my feelings, I'm told he got fired. Now he's in Bohol, running his father's business. The last time we met was four months ago by accident.

Me: Likewise.

_joshy: <3

I know, I know. It's weird talking like this with eachother. We aren't even together! But I guess we both just miss each other's company.

"As the financial manager, I feel like I should tell you this," Minnie says. It's early in the morning when Minnie drags me out of my office and goes to hers. Her pink cubicle smells like apples.

"What is it?" I say.

"Nina has been getting grabbing money from the company's bank. And in big amounts. Three-hundred-thousand is common, for company expenses, but five million? I don't know, Theo. Screams unusualness."

It is unusual. Look, Nina is a good CEO, truly. But she does seem like the type to pleasure her materialistic personality every hour. Maybe it's just one of these times.

"I'll talk to her about it."

"What if she's being corrupt." She devilishly raises an exaggerated eyebrow, imitating a detective.

"Eh," I reply. "We can get other jobs."

She shrugs. "True."

When I slide through the door, Kyan is focused on his computer. He's wearing a black, pricey suit that makes his skin glow. His eyes turn white and blue constantly as he switches tabs. The asshole barely notices me.

"Heyyyyyyyyy."

He stops typing and looks up at me. First, his eyes land on my light blue button-up, then on my eyes. We stare at eachother for a second, him waiting for me to elaborate.

I slowly walk to his desk and sit on the chair in front of it.

I smile gracefully at him. "How's your day?"

He scrutinizes me suspiciously. "Well for you once you're treating me like a civilized co-worker. Had something up your anus today?"

I gape at him in shock at his sudden statement. "Uh oh, Kyan Dy said a bad word. Haven't you studied your etiquette and proper vocabulary?"

"Get straight to the point."

"Is your sister corrupt?"

He freezes.

"Too straight to the point?" I query.

"Clearly." He clears his throat intertwines his fingers together and places them on the desk. "Why do you ask?"

"Why don't you answer?"

"You're the one asking here, Rodriguez. Don't be difficult."

I lace my hands on the desk exaggeratedly. "Well, Minnie has witnessed Nina withdrawing large amounts of cash."

He raises an eyebrow. "Are you sure?"

Ay di, ay di pisting yawa-a ka. Ka obvious na ana. Financial manager na gud si Minnie buanga ka. "I'm sure. You can even confirm with Minnie." I force a smile.

He nods. "Okay," His voice is still suspecting. "I'll have a chat with Nina about it."

"Ughhhhhh." I groan. My cheeks feel the cold metal of the table and I squirm with delight of the feeling. Minnie shakes her head in disapproval as she stares at my phone's screen.

"Absolutely not, Theo. Get over the man. The last time you talked to him was two years ago!"

"Excuse me! I talked to him last night. In text. Plus, we saw eachother four months ago."

"Yeah, by accident," Minnie says matter-of-factly. I groan again. She takes a sip of her iced tea. The dim sum restaurant is almost empty. We've been here so long. Her listening to me murmuring I miss hims and Help mes.

"Aren't you supposed to be supporting me in this? You want me to date, and when a guy clearly misses me, you raise the red flag." I accuse.

"I don't know, Theo. Feels weird. A person messaging you in the middle of the night?"

"Because he misses me!"

"Uh-huh."

"It's romantic." I deadpan.

"More like stalker-like tendencies."

"Says Ms. One Night Stands." She scowls at this.

"Okay, fine." She replies. "I'll be supportive of this. Honestly, what the fuck? It's your love life anyway."

"Haha. Very life-changing love advice."

Minnie isn't a romantic. Unlike me, she doesn't believe in long-lasting love. I can't blame her. All her past relationships were, ugh, bad. Now she's "living her life" by hooking up with people without strings attached. I want to ask her if having sex with someone you don't even know, let alone love, feels weird, but my head is too preoccupied with Josh to do so.

Why does he keep disappearing and coming back again?
