** Flashback back **
It's 2.45am, Jade was still up, his eyes flashing across the ceiling, he couldn't sleep.
He just pushed someone off the cliff yesterday, how could he possibly sleep?
"Hmmmmff" he sighed, wondering what in God's name he had gotten himself into
"Why did I do that? Oh God!" he lamented on his bed.
He soon got irritated by the over fluffy bed and charged out of it, pulled out his chair and sat-staring out through his window.
He remembers Thompson's last words yesterday " Jade you're a killer". It kept ringing in his head since he said it. "But I did it to save him" jade said to himself as tears rolled down his cheeks.
Jade knew the news would soon fly. He knew very well that the moment it gets to his school, it would surely be an open secret cuz' the truth would not last longer in Thompson's mouth. Not after his reaction yesterday that clearly showed jade that he was alone in this mess.
***********
It was morning, Jade's mom had dropped him off at school before going to the office. Jade on the other hand had missed the bus, obviously because he slept late or maybe because he didn't even sleep at all. His eyes were all red and dull. His countenance was enough to tell anyone who cared that something was wrong with him. But funny enough, no one ever notices him at school, so no one asked. He just sat at his usual corner in class, trying all his very best to avoid eye contact with anyone, especially with Thompson.
Thompson scrambled something on a piece of paper, folded it and threw it to him from the other corner of the class. It read
*Let's talk outside*Jade's pupils constricted for a minute as his heart pumped twice as fast. He wasn't mentally ready to speak to him. He knew what the topic would obviously be about, and he wasn't sure it would be a good idea to discuss a thing like that in school.
But Thompson had already gone outside to wait for him, so he had no other option than to join him outside.Thompson quietly clears his throat. It seemed as though he too were nervous. But he had to man up.
"I was thinking about what happened yesterday, about the guy you pushed off a cliff" he paused for a while, scratched the back of his head as though was he was about to say next was a life threatening one.
"I want us to report to the police" he added
"The police?" Jade couldn't believe what he just heard
"But I'll go to jail.... I'll be locked up for ever"
"No no... We'll explain to them. We'll tell them that it wasn't your fault. Th...They will understand "he stammered
" Thompson please let's not do this please" jade begged, trying to hold him by the hand but he stepped back.
"People will soon find out about it Jade. You know how stories like this spread. Once everyone knows the truth we'll both be locked. I'll be go to jail for your crime"
"But I did it to save you. I pushed him off your body remember" Jade's eyes teared up
"I'm going to report it to the police with or without you. I don't want to be mixed up with any of this please."
"Thompson...."
"I'm sorry Jade but I can't let you drag me into this. I'm going to clear my name" he said as he walked out on Jade.
Jade just stood there, swallowed by the sour taste of betrayal. He hated himself, he hated every single thing.*****
**Back to the present day**
Jade picked up the dairy from his table. He knew what was to be done. He tore a sheet of paper from the book, took a pen and wrote a note for his mom. He knew that might actually be the last thing she'll hear from him. So he wrote everything he wanted her to know, everything.
He then went out, heading straight to school, just as he was asked to.Soon, he was there, standing at the centre of the playground with the book in his hands. He knew his life would soon come to an end, but he wasn't at all scared. He held unto his cold smile as he awaited Kate and her monster friend.
"Our guest is finally here" Kate giggled from behind
"You're late you know" she added
"Here's your book" Jade said as he threw it to her
"Can I go now?"
"Oh.. No no no. Not so fast Jade. The party just started" She giggled again
Jade suddenly felt something breathing behind him. The air it puffed out was powerful enough to even cause his hair to dangle.
He turned slowly as though every joint in his body had grown stiff. He couldn't behold his eyes. Before him stood a gigantic being in a rag-like attire. It looked exactly like one of those scary figures in Hollywood horror movies. He just stood ajar in bewilderment.
And then as swift as the wind itself, the figure pounced on him. Pushing him to the ground, riping him apart, limb after him.
His eyes were fixed on the bright night sky as blood gushed out of his mouth and his nose and his ears and his eyes. He still kept the cold smile as his eyes slowly closed.
