The first thought Evangeline had as she woke up the next morning was a simple four lettered word; shit.

The events of the previous night replayed in her head, repeatedly. The closeness of the brunette had affected Evangeline more than she'd like to admit, although she would never even mention the previous night to anyone. Especially not her suitemates.

Evangeline knew what Riven said had been cruel and unnecessary, but she couldn't ignore that when she was with him, everything else disappeared. She wasn't sure how, or why, it had happened, but she did know that she liked the feeling of being around someone without being attacked by their feelings.. However, Evangeline wasn't naive enough to trust Riven straight away, no matter what effect he may have on her.

Evangeline needed a distraction, something that would take her mind far away from Riven, and the first day of classes was a perfect fit.

After she had woken up, Evangeline got herself ready for the day before leaving her room. As she made her way to the kettle, she didn't fail to notice Stella trying to sneak back in through the front door.

"Same designer?" Evangeline questions with a small smirk on her face.

"Pardon?" Stella replied.

"It's just, that outfit is very similar to yesterdays, so I assumed it was the same designer." Evangeline said, clearly trying to get a rise out of Stella.

"Do you know how I feel about that joke, or shall I tell you?" Evangeline only responded with a smirk before turning back to the kettle to make her hot chocolate. "Where's Bloom?"

"Well, she had a rough night. Thanks to you." Musa answered, making Evangeline aware of her presence. "I didn't think those things were real, but we all saw. It was creepy as hell, and it looked like it wanted to kill her."

"What about my ring?"

"Are you serious right now, Stella? Musa's just told you that Bloom had been attacked by a fucking Burned One and your only concern is your stupid ring?" Evangeline raised her voice towards the end of the question, the irritation she felt growing.

"That Burned... burned thing took it." Bloom interrupted, completely oblivious to the tense situation she had walked into.

"What?" The light fairy asked.

At that point, Evangeline had noticed the powerful magic burning within her once again. She had no choice but to tune out their conversation in order to try control it. As Stella walked away, Evangeline walked past the rest of her suitemates and into her own dorm.

"Magic lives in the very fabric of nature. And here in our circle of stone, it's magnified." Professor Dowling glanced around at every student gathering in the Stone Circle. "The Vessel tests your ability to channel that magic. Further down the line, you may learn to connect with other elements, but your first year is all about the element you were born with. Whatever your element, the emotions underlying it are the same for all fairies."

Professor Dowling called out an element, with a following description, as each student who possessed said element took a turn at the Vessel to channel it.

"Earth. Soil, sand, rock, and all manner of plant life."

"Water. The lakes and oceans of the world, or the molecules that exist in all organisms around us."

"The mind. Thoughts, memories, dreams. The power to manipulate."

It was Evangeline's turn. She made her way to the centre of the circle and placed a hand at either side of the Vessel gripping it tightly.
