chapter five

Evangeline made her way back to the suite. Her breathing was shallow, and her eyes were brimming with tears as she walked with her head down, her long brown hair creating a curtain that shielded her from the students passing her by.

She had only made it to the courtyard before bumping into someone. Looking up quickly, Evangeline's shoulders lowered when she saw the familiar blue eyes and curly brown hair staring back at her.

"Are you okay?" Jade asked, worry evident in her voice.

"Um, yeah- yeah. I'm just going back to the suite."

"Are you sure you're okay? You look like you've been crying."

"I'm fine, I promise. Just a migraine."

With a disbelieving look on her face, Jade stepped aside for Evangeline to pass, "I'll see you in partnership, yeah?"

"Yeah, see you!" Evangeline quickly made her way through the rest of the courtyard and up to the suite.

Before she could open the door, Stella, Bloom and Aisha all appeared in the doorway.

"Sky just called; they're moving the Burned One to the Capitol. We have to go.

The girls made their way past the barrier and to the old barn. Throughout the walk, Evangeline could feel her magic slowly lessen within her. Evangeline was the first to walk into the abandoned barn and notice the Burned One isn't present.

"It's not here." Bloom stated.

"They've taken it already. Look." Aisha makes her way to the broken chains where the Burned One was supposed to be.

Both Evangeline and Musa made their way out the barn, sensing another person in the forest. Terra follows behind them and watches as the two mind fairies seem to be distracted. Suddenly, both fairies double over in pain, having an overwhelming surge through their stomach.

"Terra, there's someone else in the forest. They're hurt – go find them." Evangeline tells Terra. Although, the Earth fairy didn't make it very far before Musa pointed out Silva leaning against a tree. Surrounding him was a group of specialists laid across the floor covered in blood.

Terra called out to the other, "Guys! We have a problem!" The other fairies make their way over without Bloom.

While the various fairies are surveying the situation, Evangeline hears a voice calling her into the forest alongside Bloom.

"Evangeline."

"Bloom."

"Evangeline."

"Bloom."

"Evangeline."

"Bloom."

The two girls follow the voice deep into the forest, both too entranced by the voice to notice the others presence. Looking around the forest, Evangeline laid eyes on a figure in the distance and lets out an audible gasp, alerting Bloom of the other presence. Stumbling backwards, Evangeline felt a stinging sensation across her arm.

The Burned One made its way to the fairies and Evangeline felt an all-consuming wave of power wash over her. She used the power against the Burned One, instantly killing it.

"What the fuck was that?"

"I have no idea."

Evangeline turned to see bloom and Aisha heavily confused by the events. Evangeline had felt that power before. She recognised the feeling of it surging within her. In hopes of changing the subject, she spoke up.

"So, do you reckon it's dead? If so where the fuck is Stella's ring"

Upon further inspection, Bloom realised the ring was inside of the Burned One and looked to both Evangeline and Aisha, hoping one of them would volunteer themselves.

"I just killed the damn thing and now you want me to touch its guts? No thank you." Evangeline scoffed, moving backwards. Bloom walked over to the dead creature and pulled out the ring, not before making many noises of disgust.

Evangeline felt a warm liquid trickle down her arm, swiping it with her hand, she realised she'd been cut by one of the branches on the floor.

Making her way to the Bastion for a bandage, Evangeline failed to notice the presence of a certain specialist beside her.

"What happened to your arm?"

"Fuck my life." Evangeline murmured under her breath.

"Not happy to see me?"

"No, riven, surprisingly I'm not. God forbid someone isn't charmed by you."

"Oh, so you admit I'm slightly charming."

"Far from it, actually."

Evangeline suddenly stops and her eyes go white.

"What the fuck, Evangeine?"
