Thornkit watched as the Clan left for the gathering, annoyance burning deep in his chest. He lashed his tail and huffed, turing away from the nursery entrance. He saw his four siblings as well as Flowerkit settling down for the night, Rainkit was yawning and curling up with Crowkit. Thornkit, however, wasn't tired. He was frustrated that he had been forced to stay behind. He was a part of this Clan too and he was sick of being treated like a kit!

Despite what his name might say and he knew full well that he and his siblings were big enough to be apprentices. He was big, and he had sharp claws. He looked down at his paws, where he saws his larger han average claws peeking out from his paw pads. He had his father's paws, they made him stronger and he knew he would be a great hunter and a great hunter just like Hawktalon.

"Thornkit quit sulking and come to bed." He heard Tigerkit calling to him. Thornkit let out a growl of annoyance.

"I'm not sulking." He retorted without looking at his brother. "We should be able to go to the gathering too. We're almost apprentices."

"Almost isn't close enough." Tigerkit argued and padded up to him. "We're almost there, I'm sure we'll get to go to the next one. Just sleep, you'll feel better in the morning."

Thornkit huffed, his tail twitching in annoyance. He stared out of the nursery entrance once more, his paws itching with anticipation. Of course Tigerkit didn't understand, none of them ever did. He was so sick of being a kit when there so much to learn, he wanted to be a warrior, he wanted to defend his Clan. He looked towards the SunTree where Foxstar's den was. That will be my den someday. He vowed.

He heard Tigerkit sigh and reutrn to his nest. None of his siblings shared his ambition, none of them shared his drive or his courage. He was certain they would be good warriors, but Thornkit was determined to be better than good, he was determined to be the best.

"Hey," A softer voice spoke behind him and Thornkit turned to see Flowerkit. Not his sibling, but the two had essentially grown up side by side. "It'll be alright, I know you want to be out there and learning already."

"I'm so sick of being looked at and treated like a kit." Thornkit relayed his feelings to her, she had always been easier to talk to than his siblings and he was certain she understood. Flowerkit was nearly seven moons, her ceremony had been delayed due to an injury and she had elected to have her apprentice ceremony with Thornkit and his siblings.

"I know but unfortunately we are kits. It's the warrior code that states apprentices can't become apprentices before six moons." Flowerkit explained.

Thornkit snorted. "Maybe the warrior code should be changed then."

"We have those rules for a reason." Flowerkit's voice was gentle, but it still didn't change his mind. "They keep us safe." She flicks her tail over his ears. "I know I can't change your mind, but you can't change the warrior code." Maybe not yet. He thought to himself.

"Just one more moon. I know we can do it." She let out a yawn and touched her nose to his cheek, making his pelt burn slightly. "I'm gonna get some sleep, and you should do the same."

Flowerkit returned to her nest which had been moved a bit closer to the others since both her mother and sister were no longer in the nursery with her. He let out a quiet sight. He couldn't get the frustration to go away, it burned and clawed under his pelt like fleas. I'll show them that I'm ready. That I'm not some fragile, skittish kit.

He padded over to his nest, but he had no intentions of sleeping. He curled up in his nest which was on the edge next to Bramblekit and he closed his eyes, slowing his breathing so he could fool his littermates into thinking he was asleep. He was patient, he listened quietly to their breathing and soon enough, he heard the quiet snores of his littermates
