"I hate the way you say my name
I hate your picture-perfect lips on mine
If I could, I'd cut the breaks
I hate that I can't help but stay all night
When you look at me, I'll have to turn my face
If I look too long, I'll never look away" (Lyrics: "I hate the way" by Sofia Carson)
"Are you ready then, Lucas?" my fake husband asked me when I finally came out of the bathroom after what felt like an eternity, having locked myself in there with the excuse of taking a long bath to avoid the ex-Navy Seal, at least for a while.
God, I hated him.... The way he sat there on the sofa in that tight shirt, which really showed off his toned muscles and broad shoulders, and grinned back at me.
I hated the way he said my name... The way they left his perfectly shaped lips and I got a little more lost in his bright blue eyes...
The same lips that had kissed me tenderly again and again over the past few days, burning themselves so strongly into my heart and soul that I dreamed of Ryan more and more often at night and the muscular ex-Navy Seal crept into my dreams.
I hated that we had to pretend to be this perfect couple for the people around us, when in reality we weren't even really married and realistically there was very little chance that Ryan felt the same way about me.
Never in my life had I been so upset by another man and never had I felt so insecure about these complicated emotional processes...
I wanted to call Simone and Martin and tell them that we should call off the mission and see if I could go back to my old life and forget that I had ever met Ryan... or whatever his real name was in reality...
I hated that I was stuck in this small Georgia town with the ex-soldier, sharing the same bed day in and day out (metaphorically speaking, of course!) without even knowing his real first name....
I hated the fact that there was no way I could escape this subtly unpleasant situation... unless of course I wanted the ruthless mafia boss of the Japanese Yakuza, who already had my uncle on his conscience, to get his hands on me too.
"I'm already done... we gays always take a bit longer in the bathroom..." I said slightly snippily to Ryan, who simply remained silent and sighed as he slid a little to one side on the wide sofa so that I could take a seat next to him.
He opened the laptop, which had been secured and checked by the FBI, and opened Skype to call Simone and Martin.
As soon as the faces of the two federal agents appeared on the screen in front of us, Simone immediately asked us: "So how are you two doing?"
"Very well...", I said, after my fake husband remained silent, and I added with a smile, "We even regularly do things with our next door neighbors..."
"That sounds good, Leander...", Ryan's boss replied, also smiling slightly, before Martin intervened briefly: "But they mustn't find out too much about you two, do you understand? That could jeopardize your new identity... really only talk about the things from your supposed CV or past that we've discussed with you..."
Simone leaned over slightly to her colleague and whispered in Martin's ear: "You'd better order another detailed background check on Sarah and John Miller from Thomas...just to be on the safe side..."
"But that's really unnecessary..."
I rolled my eyes slightly as I sincerely assured the two FBI officers: "Sarah and John are really very nice... Well, the wife, Sarah is sometimes very nosy, but that's quite normal when you want to get to know each other..."
