I woke to the sound of our doorbell and both I and Kenny raised our heads in confusion, while my alibi husband sleepily mumbled, "Who could it be?"

Kenny was also immediately on alert and his ears perked up uneasily, so I sat up a little and scratched the sheepdog behind the ears reassuringly, while I was more than excited myself.

Memories of my terrible dream immediately popped into my head and I said in Ryan's direction as he got out of bed with a sigh and put some clothes on before getting his gun out of the safe in the closet.

"Please take care of yourself, Commander... be careful..." I said to him and Ryan gave me a cheerful grin in response: "You don't have to worry about me, Lucas... I always am..."

"Oh yeah... and that's from the same guy who threw himself at that old pensioner at the fashion show..." I replied ironically to the ex-Navy Seal, but Ryan didn't answer me as he had already gone to the door.

I watched nervously as Kenny couldn't stand being in bed any longer after a while and finally ran out of the bedroom towards the front door.

"Lucas...you can calm down...it wasn't the Japanese mafia..." I heard Ryan's voice after a few minutes and I exhaled with relief. But then I flinched again, startled, when I suddenly saw Martin standing in our bedroom here in Lawrenceville.

"What are you doing here?" I wanted to know from both of them when I spotted Ryan's direct superior behind the massive man, who was looking at us both with a slightly pitying expression.

She looked at me seriously while her knowing gaze passed back and forth between me and Ryan, as the ex-Navy Seal hugged me lightly from the side while she sternly announced: "Your cover has been blown... we have to change your location immediately and get out of here!"

"But...what...how...how could that happen?" I stammered, still completely perplexed, and looked helplessly in Ryan's direction, who was already working with Martin to stow the contents of our closet in several large suitcases.

"But... but we still have to say goodbye to Sarah and John, Simone..." I then said, still in a trance, as it all seemed like a bad joke to me.

Simone stood right in front of me and grabbed my shoulders while she insisted: "You can't do that now, Lucas... Takashi Yamamoto has found out about your current whereabouts in some way, but we don't know how yet... we have to get you out of here immediately..."

"Your life is at stake...do you understand that, Leander?"

Less than two hours later, I was sitting with Martin, Simone and Ryan in a private jet that had been specially ordered for us and my stomach churned as the small plane sped along the runway and finally took off, leaving American soil.

The last few hours had passed me by like a kind of haze and I had huddled almost apathetically on the bed, silently watching the FBI officers as they hurriedly packed only the bare essentials of our belongings in the house for this trip.

"Where is our trip going now?" I asked nervously, and I immediately got a little angry when the two FBI officers didn't answer me.

"For fuck's sake! I'm not a little kid... I really want to know where we're going now!" I shouted angrily and made an effort to get up. Over the last few weeks, I had grown fond of Sarah and John, despite their little idiosyncrasies and Sarah's curiosity... what must they think of us now that we had moved out of our house like two felons in the middle of the night?

I would have liked to say goodbye to them... But Simone had strictly forbidden me to do so...

Kenny panted loudly and rose wearily from my feet, while I stood up in front of Martin and Simone. And I only calmed down again when Ryan gently but firmly pulled me back onto my seat and stroked my side reassuringly.

"It's for your own safety, Leander..." Simone then announced to me and I stared at Ryan's boss, annoyed, because she had been saying this sentence almost like a parrot the whole time over the past few hours.

"I'm sorry... but I have to take this call..." she said as she disappeared into the back of the private plane with her ringing phone, leaving the two of us alone with Martin. The massive man watched me and Ryan slightly over the edge of his magazine before finally returning to his travel reading and leaving us alone.

Sighing, I rested my head on the ex-Navy Seal's broad shoulder and looked out of the small window to watch the beautiful red and purple sunset. We were silent for a while, just enjoying the silence, before Ryan suddenly said to me: "Everything will be fine, Leander... I promise you that..."

I froze for a second, as it was the very first time he had called me by my real name, but I quickly regained my composure. I playfully stroked Ryan's thighs with my fingertips and let them move further and further up his leg towards his privates.

"Hey, what are you doing?" the ex-soldier reprimanded me lightly and his light blue eyes wandered nervously in Martin's direction, but he hadn't noticed.

"Oh come on, Commander... don't always be so stuffy... would you like to join the Mile High Club?"

"No...Leander...that's not possible...damn..." Ryan said in an excited voice and I smiled inwardly that I now knew very well how best to tease my fake husband and lure him out of his reserve.

"You're really impossible..." Ryan laughed softly and I pursed my lips as I grinned at him with mock indignation: "You know me by now, don't you?"

"Yes... I do..." the ex-Navy Seal grinned and reached for the warm blanket lying on the opposite side of the plane. Ryan draped the blanket around my shoulders and lifted it so that he could kiss me briefly, unobserved and hidden from Martin's scrutinizing gaze, before pinning it on my lap.

"Sleep a little longer, Leander... we'll be flying for a while yet..." Ryan whispered to me as I leaned my head against the window and closed my eyes, sighing.

I looked at Ryan's attractive side profile out of the corner of my eye and I wondered how it had happened that I had developed feelings within the few weeks we had spent together in this small town...

"Will you finally tell me your real name, Ryan?" I finally whispered quietly to my token husband, but he shook his head: "I'm sorry, Leander... but I can't..."

I rested my head against the cool window pane in frustration and took a deep breath.

This man had what felt like a truckload of secrets in his luggage... And I prayed in my mind that these, combined with my affection for Ryan, wouldn't be my undoing in this game of cat and mouse with Takashi Yamamoto... It still made my stomach hurt to think that I still didn't know how Ryan had gotten hold of these strange papers from this mafia boss.

Let alone the simple fact that I still didn't know his real name.

But I had to trust him...what else could I do?

"Good night, Commander..." I mumbled in Ryan's direction before my body finally gave up and I was finally able to fall asleep despite the loud airplane noises and with the muscular, mysterious ex-soldier by my side.
