Mitch took a seat beside me and grinned deeply, “This is my aunt, Aunty Silk”.
I stared at him, looking really confused. I have heard weird names but this was the height of it all.
Mitch, noticing my confusion, decided to explain further, “My Auntie here is a big fan of naming things or people's weird names. I heard mum telling me, she wanted to name me "Enchant ".
I laughed deeply, “That would've been really odd”.
Aunty Silk frowned and then grinned suddenly, “It fitted your good looks and having that name could spice your moment with the ladies”.
“That's very wrong and I am grateful mum objected to that, I would have been hating myself for bearing such a name”. Mitch said.
“It's called creativity of lovely names, am I not right Kathy?”.
“Yes Aunty Silk, it's rather creative”.I replied.
“You're saying that to make her feel better right?”. Mitch whispered.
“Your mom never told you I had a name. I usually called her when we were much younger”.
“Not sure she mentioned that”. Mitch replied and then looked my way, “Your boring Kathy with your stories Aunt”.
“Am not because kids love stories from a much older person”.
“She's not a kid's Aunt”.
“I see you all as children”.
Mitch placed his tools in his bag, “Well snap out of it”. He moved to the kitchen counter and was back with a plate, “Who’s craving loukoumades?”.
“Oh Mitch, actually what I needed”. I grabbed it and munched on it.
“Mitch you have just met someone who likes loukoumades more than you do”. Aunty Silk smiles softly
“She's still got a competition”. Mitch moved over to the kitchen to get his loukoumades.
“So Kathy, how are you enjoying your stay here”. Aunty Silk asked.
“It's lovely, I love the historical buildings and it's lovely history”.
“It's a great story”. She says, “it's fun to know about history and not to be into that thing that works like magic”.
“A phone?”. Mitch suggested.
“Whatever you all call it, that stuff creeps me”.
“Wouldn't be surprised by that”. Mitch frowns.
“Can I get some water?”. I interrupted, smiling widely and staring at their faces.
“Mitch, could you be a darling and get her a glass of water?”.
“Am on to it”. Mitch rushed into the kitchen.
Aunty Silk turns towards me, “Do you know how to knit?”.
“No I don't”.
“It's simple, I want you to be able to do this stuff for your children”.
Mitch returns with the water, “Here”.
I took a huge gulp from the water and set the glass on the table, “Thanks”.
“I was asking Kathy here”, Aunty Silk began, “If she could knit and she gave me the negative response, so whenever you have any time for yourself don't you hesitate to come here dear, I would show you everything you need to know about knitting”.
Mitch smirks, “I think you just got into a big mess Kathy”.
“What mess are you talking about?”. Aunty Silk spoke loudly.
I suddenly remembered I was with my family before sneaking off. “I need to go”.I walked over to Aunty Silk and placed a kiss on her forehead and looked over at Mitch, “Goodbye Mitch”.
He nodded slowly and walked me out to the front door, “Next time don't be sneaky so you wouldn't encounter someone like Aunty Silk”. He teased me.
I couldn't help but smile, “Actually I don't find her annoying, She seems like a good person.
“Okay”. He says still standing on the front porch, I walked away wondering if I could find my parents and what would be their reaction when they discover I am being really sneaky. I caught sight of Hilly standing by a flower.
“Psst Hilly”.I called slowly.
“Who's there?”. She looked towards my direction and looked really surprised when she saw me.
“Over here".
“Kathy could you tell me what is wrong with you, are you just getting on our nerves or being childish”. She fumed.
I smiled lightly, “Neither”.
“What got into you to leave us that way, you know what, you have been acting weird since you got here, disappearing on us whenever you choose to”. She stared at me for a reply and rolled her eyes when I chuckled lightly.
“I needed a stroll and I chose to follow my heart”.
“You always go for a stroll everytime and it's really becoming annoying”.
“Chill Hilly it's just a……..”. Jacob rushed towards me and pulled me into his arms.
“Why are you always disappearing on me, I was so scared”.
I pulled away slowly. “I’m okay, just wanted to clear my head on something”.
He placed his lips on mine and I pulled away quickly, we all stared at ourselves for a while.
“She's here sweetheart”. Mom interrupted, calling out to dad and staring at me fiercely.
Dad peeped through the door, his huge stomach shoving mom away, “Young lady you have got some explaining to do”.
Jacob leaned closer, “I will see you later babe”. He leaned in to give me a peg on the cheeks”.
“Yeah”.I replied, not looking his way.
“Well”. Dad pointed towards his room.
“Mom”. I stared at my mom for intervention.
“Sweetheart, let's just do what your daddy says”.
I walked towards the room, angrily waiting for dad and mom to walk in.
“Well?”. Dad asked.
“Well what?”.
“You have been disappearing on us for a while now”.
“Because I am mature enough?”. I answered.
“Because you need to stay home, you don't know anyone here”.
“Am not a kid Dad”.
“I know you aren't but you must know better than disappearing like you always do”.
“That's where I disappear to feel really safe”.“So tell us, Where do you disappear to?”. Mom interrupted.
“Hmmmmm, Who's hungry?”. I raised my hands.
“This isn't time for such”. Dad folded his hands dramatically.
“See you later…….”. I rushed over to my room, bolting the door and sighing quietly.
My body sank into the downy mattress, the pillows cradling my head like a cloud. As I nestled into the luxurious linens, it was like being enveloped in a cocoon of softness. The air was thick with the scent of lavender and I breathed in deeply, the scent calming my nerves. I could feel every muscle in my body relax as I laid on the bed, the pressure of the day lifting off my shoulders. Every inch of my body was supported by the plush mattress, the downy pillows cradling my head like a baby in a mother's arms. The linens caressed my skin, their luxurious fibers enveloping me in a cocoon of comfort. I felt as if I were floating, weightless and free of the world below. The scent of lavender filled the air, my senses were overcome with the soothing ambiance of my bedroom. The bed felt like a dream, the softness
enveloping me like a warm hug. I was surrounded by the smell of lavender, its aroma calming my mind
and body.
My body and mind were one with the bed. I could feel the fibers of the sheets, the fluff of the pillows, the firmness of the mattress. My senses were flooded with the calming scent of lavender. I was no longer aware of my physical form, only the blissful sensations that filled my mind. I was drifting, floating, becoming one with the very fabric of the bed. I was in a state of complete and utter contentment. My entire being seemed to melt into the mattress, the boundaries between my body and the world around me, blurring until I was floating in a sea of comfort and peace. My eyelids grew heavy and I drifted off into a blissful sleep, when a knock on the door interrupted me.
“Who could that be?”. I never liked it when I was being interrupted when I was having a good time in my bed. I know you think it's really weird but that's just me. I opened the door to find Jacob placing his hands on his hips and smiling down at me. “Jacob, what are you doing here?”.
“Just came to see you sweetheart”.
I closed the door and turned towards him, “You didn't need to”.
“Why?”.
“Because I don't like being interrupted when I am trying to sleep or have time to myself”.
“I'm sorry about that Kathy”. He stepped closer.
“That's not a problem,” I smiled.
“I actually didn't mean to disturb you”.
“I don't really mind”.
He grinned widely, “I was worried”.
“Oh”.
“And I am still worried”. He continued.
“Well you don't need to be worried about me because I am okay”.
He smiled, “Of course I have to be your girlfriend”. He cupped my cheeks into his hands and leaned in for a kiss.
“Jacob!”. I leaned back.
“Could you stop resisting Kathy”.
“No Jacob, this isn't needed”.
“But you're my girlfriend”. He argued.
“I know”.
“And I just want a kiss from my girlfriend”. He frowned.
“And you should ask her before stealing a kiss from her”. I protested.
“I don't think so”. He held my wrist as he lowered his face for a kiss, I broke away from his hold.
“You need to leave now”. I said.
“But we need to spend more time together as a couple”.
I gritted my teeth, “Just leave”.
He kissed me lightly on the cheeks, not feeling guilty about what he did, “Goodnight Kat”.
“Night Jacob”.
I watched as he walked out of the door, I rushed over to lock it, thinking about the nerves Jacob had, I walked to my bed and laid down quietly.
