BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE, her parents always taught her that if something or someone was meant to be, it would find its way to her. They weren't the best when it came to advice, but that was one thing they could pass along to her. It was something they lived by forever, it made sense for them to teach their daughter the same thing, and it stuck with her too.

She would learn to use that with every aspect of her life, including Dina.

A breath escaped her lips as she looked at herself in the mirror, reminding herself of the very thing her parents would say to her. "If it's meant to be, then it will be. Just play it cool." She reminded herself, soon letting out one more breath. She was ready to face the world once again. After stepping away from the mirror, she scanned the room, searching for her boots and jacket. Tommy had been asking for help with cleaning the horse stables for months, but no one volunteered, until now. Everyone told her that she would regret it, but it gave her the chance to talk to Tommy.

She was hoping to get some information from him. That might end up being an afterthought, though.

"Where did I put my stuff?" She asked herself aloud, moving out of the bedroom and to the living space. After a quick scan of the new room, her stuff could be spotted by the table in the kitchen. "There they are." She spoke proudly as she approached them.

She slipped on her boots and jacket, soon making her way toward the door.

Y/n opened the door only to reveal Dina getting ready to knock. Once she realized the open door, she quickly put her arm down, an awkward smile on her face, she then cleared her throat before speaking. "Do you mind if I walk with you to the stables? I wanted your opinion on something." She asked her curiously as Y/n stepped outside, closing and locking the door behind her. What could Dina have to talk to her about? What was so important that she needed her opinion? So many different thoughts and possibilities ran through her head. She took a second to clear her mind and remember what her parents taught her.

Play it cool.

"Yeah, of course. What's going on?" She questioned with a worried tone. The two walked side by side to the stables, Y/n then glanced over at her.

"Has Jesse seemed off to you?" She knew this would end up being about him, just not this soon. All she had to do was keep calm and help her if she could do that, then this would be over sooner. She took a deep breath and listened as she continued. "I don't know, he's just been kinda distant recently." Once she pointed it out, that kind of behavior did sound familiar. She just couldn't tell her she noticed it though, she couldn't confirm the thing that had been eating her alive inside.

As her friend, she had to ease her mind. She pretended to think for a moment before responding. "I haven't noticed anything, I also haven't known him long enough to notice irregularities in his behavior," Y/n replied honestly, letting out a chuckle at the last statement to lighten the mood. The sound of Dina joining her was her sign that she succeeded. "He'll come around eventually, just give him time."

Dina nodded with understanding, soon flashing her a smile. "Thanks. I'll see you later, Y/n." With that, Dina split off from the trail, going her own way.

Y/n then finished the walk to the stables alone.

The two worked in silence, only sharing words if one needed help with something. This gave Y/n time to think about her interactions with Dina. Now that she got to look back at her first meeting with Dina to now, she realized that maybe it was better for them to just be friends. As much as she likes Dina, she has responsibilities now. Well, more than she had before living in Jackson.
