She knows.

"What do you mean she knows?" Natasha gasped as she stood in the doorway.

Steve stood in front of her, looking small and venerable as Natasha struggled to find her breath.

"How did she" but she couldn't finish her sentence.

"She just guessed by the way I reacted." Steve said. "I'm so sorry Nat."

Natasha felt her legs fail her and she leaned towards a wall so she would fall. Steve caught her so she would fall even more and held her.

"Breathe" he whispered.

"I can't, I can't." Nat grabbed hold of Steve so she wouldn't fall through the world.

"It's okay Nat I promise." He picked her up and shut the door behind them before walking over to her living room and sitting her down on her couch.

"But" Nat tried to speak. "What am I supposed to do?"

"Breathe" Steve said and held her.

Nat tried to calm herself.

"One breath" Steve said and took a breath.

She followed his lead and took a few shaky breaths.

"What did she say when she found out?" Nat found herself asking Steve.

Steve took out his phone and pulled up the surveillance tape from the yard. He showed her a video of him and Alia walking and talking.

"You know, don't you?" Alia asked through the phone.

Alia watched him for a reaction.

"You know!" Her voice echoed through the phone.

"I.." Steve stuttered.

"Who is she?" Alia crossed his arms and glared at him.

"I can't" she waved to cut him off.

"For how long have you known?" Alia hissed.

"Since you were captured." Steve mumbled.

Steve and Nat watched as the girl thought,

"She knows too, right?" She asked and watched Steve nod his head.

"Great" Alia started walking again. "At least I know she doesn't want to see me, that's something."

Steve walked after her.

"Alia I don't know I'm sorry" he reached out to grab her arm but she shook him off.

"I'm guessing she didn't know?" The girl asked him.

Steve on the screen nodded slowly and Nat waited anxiously as the girl thought.

"Then it's okay" She told him and it was like

"What?!" Steve gasped behind her.

"Yeah, if she doesn't want to see me she shouldn't, she might have a family or a completely different life. I shouldn't interfere." The recording stopped.

Nat looked up at Steve, at his big blue eyes and floppy blonde hair. She had this awful sinking feeling in her gut and it wouldn't leave her, it just kept pulling her down. Steve stroked her auburn hair and Nat couldn't help but calm down.

"She said it's okay Nat." He reassured her.

"It's not" she snivelled.

"Then go to her." Steve smiled in a soft way that melted something in Nat.

"I can't" she cried.

"Yes you can" he pushed.

Nat shook her head. This wasn't her, this venerable person who cried.
