Hello there this is an author's note, if you are experiencing domestic violence and need help please call 800-799-7233 this is the National Domestic Violence Hotline, if you do not know what domestic violence means it is, “A violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner.” I am not an expert in these kinds of things, I am just a small writer who wants to tell story. With that being said this story will include the description of blood, death, slight abuse, hints to abuse, alcoholics, child abuse, mentions of abortions, kidnapping, and emotional abuse

Frostine POV

It all started on the day I had a nightmare. I was running away from something, but I couldn’t see what it was. The cold and frosty air was hitting my already red face. Every step I took was a loud crunch as the snowflakes fell, and began to cover up my steps. My messy hair got caught in the trees, so I had to cut it off before I continued to run. Run, run, run that's all it felt like I knew how to do until I saw my cabin. Blood was soaking into the snow at the door. By the time I got to the cabin I finally collapsed. Crawling my way inside trying to get to someone who was bleeding out on the floor. I reached out to grab her arm before I blacked out.
I woke up in a sweat. It was still snowing outside from two weeks ago, the smell of beer and whiskey filled the cabin so I knew my single mother was drinking again. I climbed out of bed with my clothes already on. Even though it was snowing I didn’t need to wear a lot of clothes. I walked out my room to find my mom crashed out on the couch. The last time I tried to move her I had to sleep outside for a week when it was snowing. So I started to put all the beer and alcohol up. I dropped a bottle of beer. I started to panic, causing my powers to feel like they were overwhelming me, before I accidentally used it to freeze the whole bottle. I froze like I just saw a ghost so I grabbed my bag and rushed out the small cabin I wished I could call home.
I arrived at school around two hours later. It was seven am now so I wasn’t late. I put my things in my vandalized locker. I was then shoved into a locker, and punched a few times. I didn’t look at their faces since I was used to this kind of treatment by people, but something unexpected happened. I felt a hot feeling from behind them like a large fire was just made behind them. The bullies ran and I felt someone lift me up. We both jumped after I got up. She felt extremely hot. I decided she seemed nice so I looked at her. Her hair was molten lava flowing down, her eyes were a bright ocean blue, and she had light clear skin. The exact opposite of me. “Are you okay?” She asked in a tone I never heard before “Huh? Oh yeah! I’m okay!” I said, feeling my face burn red with embarrassment “That’s good… I’m Aithne” “Oh I’m Frostine the new student from two weeks ago” “Well it’s nice to meet you Frostine, I think we have each other in science” “Oh… Yeah we do”
We both walked to science talking along the way. When we got to science class, a girl threw a container of the coldest piece of dry ice the school had at my face. It broke and fell all over me. It felt normal. The girl yelled “Ice freak!” Aithne looked at the girl, her lava hair getting more blue and larger. “At least she’s not a cheating bitch like you!” She yelled at the girl, before taking me to the seat next to her. Aithne talked to some of her friends before we were paired together to work on the science project. I looked around some people were making explosions, others were making their projects more artistic, but me and Aithne were talking about what we could do for the project. Which was “Who can be the most creative with each other's powers?”
When school was done we decided to go to a restaurant where we ordered our food when I noticed my mom. This was odd in many ways because she never went anywhere and even when she did she didn’t dress up like this. She was wearing black heels, a short red dress, and jewelry. She never wore jewelry and she hates it when I wear jewelry! I grabbed my food and rushed out. Aithne noticed this and quickly tried to follow me. I thought I lost her when I got to the beach, the only place where I couldn’t affect it where everything I touched wouldn’t be hurt. I sat down feeling tears that quickly became crystals fell down my cheeks. Then I heard her voice “Frostine… Are you okay? Was it something I did?” Aithne said as she walked over and sat down next to me. She spoke in a comforting tone and her face didn’t show any visible anger. “No… It’s nothing… Just saw my mother…” “Frostine… Is everything okay at home?” I felt the urge to tell her I needed to leave my home, about how I was hurt everyday, about how my home didn’t feel like home. “No… Everything is fine at home…” But I didn’t, I was running again.
Aithne put her arm on my back but in a comforting way. We stayed quiet for a moment listening to the sea and watching the waves. Aithne stood up. “Well I should probably get going, my aunt is probably worrying about me already.” “Wait!” I stood up, I didn’t know what I was doing or why I was doing it “Aithne! I wanted to give you something” I channeled the curse trying to control it to make something that wouldn’t harm someone. And then I made it. It was an ice flower when Aithne saw it her eyes lit up like a fire just went up in the sea. Then she rummaged through her bag and took out a glass container. “Here put the flower in here so it doesn’t melt” “Oh… Um okay” I took the container and put the flower in it before handing it back to her. She took it. Then at that moment the sun hit the water making the sky turn pink, purple, and orange. The light shined on us and the flower made a beautiful pattern like when you shine a flashlight into a crystal “Frostine I have an idea for the project and I need you to trust me on this” “Alright… I trust you Aithne” I got home and went to my room after I cleaned the cabin. I noticed it wasn’t snowing as much as it was earlier. I layed down on my bed falling back into the world of dreams.
I was drowning in a colorful sea full of ripples. I tried to swim up kicking my feet only to fall deeper and deeper. Then I was falling down into a field of Burgundy Black Dahlias. In front of me was someone I loved. I didn't see how they looked except for their long fiery red hair. I ran to them and gave them a kiss before I was stabbed in the back. I fell down and saw them walk away, as my blood soaked into the flowers. I tried to reach them only to feel myself go weak. It started snowing gently when a dead dove crashed into the snow next to me then the snow became a blizzard. I felt cold for the first time as I was buried alive in snow.
I woke up with a pillow in my face. It was already five in the morning. I got up, it didn’t smell like alcohol this time so I knew my mom stayed somewhere else last night. I got ready and started to walk to school. First was my gardening class, only I dealt with the winter plants. Second was reading. Next was Social studies. After that was math. Finally it was science I watched as everyone else went up and showed their projects before Aithne went up. I tried to go up there with her but she gestured for me to sit down and gave a thumbs up to reassure me she had everything under control. She took the flower out and channeled her fires making them blue and blowing them all over the glass. Colors of light went all over the room and the flower stayed safe. However before I could hear our grade I was pulled aside.
It was a thing the principals did. They had a select few students join a group called Elixir Creek to do a mission, very few actually got accepted and very few survived, so I was quite shocked to find not only was I accepted but I already had a mission to do. Not only that but it was extremely dangerous. Elixir Creek was known for being enemies with The Council of Poison, and I had to not only find a traitor that was in the school and help them fight the Council. I walked out and Aithne rushed over to me. “Frostine! Guess what?! We were the only ones who got an A+!” “That’s actually really nice” “Hey what's wrong? You seem kinda down” “I got accepted into Elixir Creek, I know! I know! It’s supposed to be a big thing but I never wanted to join it” I noticed her face dropped and she didn’t look happy that I was accepted “That’s nice… I’ll talk to you later” And I didn’t speak to her for the rest of the week.
