PARTY WALKER ANTHEM

The forest is usually quiet at this time of night, the moon illuminating green leaves and fog covering most of the ground, the sky tinting the world an eerie shade of red.

But not tonight.

Anything in the forest could make out the sounds of several pairs of shoes thudding against the ground as they ran, ignoring the snapping of twigs and crunching of leaves, avoiding every root and branch in a hurried, panicked scurry.

Well, almost every root.

'SHITSHITSHITSHITSHI-'

Her knee buckled as her foot caught onto an obscenely outstretched root, quickly gripping onto whoever was in front of her to prevent herself from falling, her legs never stopping even after her near collision with the ground.

After all, no one wanted to be a phantom's midnight snack right?

Whoever she had gripped onto wrapped their arm around her abdomen, helping her to steady her running.

"Falling for me already?" The boy choked out a joke between his panting.

His attempts at boosting everyone's mood fell flat, the entire group seemed to ignore the comment.

The girl with red hair looked back at the group, shooting the playful boy a quick glare before focusing on the remaining five.

"Time?!"

"8 minutes!" The boy with the shotgun responded, glancing at his watch every couple of seconds as if it would speed up the time of this horrid nightmare.

'Thank the lord. Any longer and I'd just fist-fight the damn thing at this point.'

The girl released herself from the blonde boy's hold, pushing her body to run ahead of the group. Not so far they couldn't see her, but enough to where she was out of the woods first.

She looked up to the graveyard walls, the top of the wall having a red, shadowy outline of a humanoid entity climbing over it with its faint claw marks etched into the stone.

"Wonderful..." She rolled her eyes in both annoyance and exhaustion, knowing what was to come.

As she passed through the gate to the graveyard, she spun on her heel and saw just how far behind the rest of the group was with the red-haired girl entering just a bit after her, helping everyone else in.

The phantom began to sprint towards the stragglers, making an awful, taunting 'TAT TAT TAT' noise that never failed to send a chill up the girl's spine.

"Close the gate, CLOSE THE GATE!"

She wasted no time, not even paying attention to who commanded her to close it. Her hand slammed on the button and not even a second later the gate whirred to life, closing rather quickly for such a heavy gate.

The phantom stared at the group from between the crack of the closing gate, getting closer and closer...tormenting them until it was pressed right up to the gate with a growl.

Her hand had never left the button, hovering over it until she heard the loud 'SLAM' of the gate being sealed tight. She sighed in exhaustion and lulled her head to the side as a way to rest even momentarily.

An unhappy growl from behind the gate made her jump back to life, the banging that followed making her swiftly join the cluster of terrified teens.

The banging faded into background noise as everyone calmed down from being chased.

Except for one.

'Should I tell them about the...no i'm sure it'll be fine...well..'

"Alright, let's head to the bus." Before she could consider it further, her thoughts were interrupted by the ginger girl ushering her to follow the lot to the bus, the ache of each and every one of their bodies making the short journey even more excruciating than just being in the odd dimension.

Without a second thought, she followed.

'... I'm sure it'll be fine..'
