PARTY WALKER ANTHEM
EPISODE 3. CLASSWORKThe bus ride had been uneventful, and that seemed to follow them into the classroom.
"Good morn-" Their teacher, Mr. Thomas, turned to the sound of footsteps. Four students entered, standing in the doorway all holding dead and gloomy expressions. Even his usually happy and energetic students were staring off into space just fighting to stay awake "-ing?.."
He smiled with worry at his students. What could they possibly be doing all night to come in like this? 'They're like this every morning now..do they stay up all night?' Just a few weeks ago he would be met with some variation of good morning and maybe even a smile from his students if he was lucky...now....
Before
---
Ashlyn came in first as usual "Good morning."
Ben and Aiden followed in not long after with a nod and "G'morning" respectively.
Logan typically comes in a few minutes later "Good morning Mr. Thomas!"
Then right before the bell rings the twins would come in "Morning." "Morning!"
And finally, Y/n came in just as the bell rings with a smile "Mornin' Mr. Thomas! I'm not late right?" she never was.

Present
---
Y/n's head was lulled to the side with her eyes closed and almost drooling, not listening to anything that was happening.
Taylor laid her head down on the desk and fought to stay awake just long enough for attendance.
Tyler, Logan, Ben, and Ashlyn all had a similar zombie-like look; dead eyes, deep eye bags, and a completely out-of-it demeanor. Aiden wasn't fairing much better, though made a better effort at looking awake. A persistent yawn escaped this facade no matter how hard he tried to suppress it.
'And no reply...' he internally sobbed at such coldness from his once lively students "Everyone get out your homework please..."
Once he collected the homework, six of the exhausted teens passed out on their desks. With a sigh, he retreated to his own desk.
Then he noticed one of them hadn't knocked out yet.
The (h/c) haired teen looked around at her groupmates and saw not even her blonde friend was awake.
She deadpanned followed by a soft groan. 'Guess I'm note taker for the day..'
The teacher watched as the girl took out a few sheets of paper and began to write down the topic for the day. She nodded off halfway through the first sentence, jolting awake when her head hit the desk. With a sigh, she crossed her legs and began to rock back and forth to keep herself awake.
Mr. Thomas could tell what the girl was trying to do. He appreciated it, he couldn't have his students failing. He took the lesson slower for the rest of the period, pissing off a few of the faster writers. At least all of his students would get the information...

Just as Y/n finished writing the last few words to her notes, the bell rang.
Her attention was quickly shifted to the redhead in front of her, who sprang up and nearly jumped out of her seat from the loud ringing of the bell 'Crap. I slept through class again.'
Ashlyn's head whipped around to look at all her friends...who clearly had also just woken up from an impromptu nap 'Looks like the others did too.'
Her eyes fell on Y/n, who was silently snickering at Ashlyn's mini-crisis while said girl glared at her "Y/n...at this rate, we're gonna fail! It won't be funny when our grades drop..." her voice got quieter the longer she spoke, not wanting to alert her other classmates or god forbid the teacher.
Y/n shrugged and rolled her tired eyes, a playful smile gracing her lips as she reached to fix Ashlyn's bed-head. Desk-head? She didn't know "There isn't much we can do in our current situation, Ash. Don't worry about it" Once she was satisfied with how her friend's hair looked she pulled her hand away to pack up.
Ashlyn's own hand jerked up to pull the other girl's hand closer to her again, the only thing stopping the reflexive reaction being the table banging against her hand 'What...what was that?' she stared at her hand a little confused.
Did she like the small, friendly act of affection that much?
Yes.
She shook her head, shaking all the odd thoughts away and out of her mind. The sleep deprivation is getting to her, that's the only reason her logical side could come up with.
"Ashlyn, Y/n!"
Both girl's looked up from what they had been occupied with to see the five others that slept through the whole lesson.
Aiden was the only one to speak or even look remotely awake "We're all eating lunch together." He leaned in closer to the two seated girls, compelling Y/n to lean closer in "Y'know, to talk about 'stuff'."
Ashlyn nodded and Y/n gave a quick thumbs up "Alright" "Gotcha"
'He always says 'stuff' when he means the phantoms' Ashlyn watched as Aiden led the others out of the classroom like a dog rounding up lambs on a farm. Not too long after she saw Y/n follow after them, giving the freckled girl a small wave "See ya' later Ash."
Ashlyn could only observe her leaving, making no attempt at returning the gesture. Her lips pursed and diverted her eyes from where Y/n had just left. She could feel the odd thoughts coming back just by looking at where the other girl had left.
'Just..ignore it...hopefully lunch goes well.'
