t's a busy Saturday afternoon at Golf 'n Stuff and you're hanging with your best friends, Eli and Demetri. You've just finished a round of mini-golf and you absolutely WIPED the floor with them.

"After nachos what do you boys think about getting your butts handed to you in some arcade games?" You ask, placing a couple baskets of nachos onto the table and the cups of soda you were juggling in your arms. You take a seat next to Demetri, across from Eli.

"I think you mean the other way around Y/N, I've seen you play video games... you're terrible", Demetri says, sparing none of your emotions and picking up a chip.

" *gasp* I can't believe you'd even say that" you exclaim in fake hurt, hand clutching your chest at the verbal dagger. You hold the hurt look for a few seconds then crack into a grin, flick Demetri on the forehead, "I could beat you with my eyes closed".

"Is that a bet, Y/N?" Demetri asks, a competitive gleam in his eyes and that smarmy grin on his face.

"You bet your ass it's a bet", you declare, biting into a nacho chip. Eli watches silently, a small smile on his lips watching his friends banter.

"Okay then, what are the stakes? What are we betting?"

"Hmmmm, I can't think of anything now but I'm sure we can decide on something when I've kicked your ass", you quip.

"It's on!" The nacho's now gone, the three of you head to the arcade machines. You start with the basketball game, each getting a minute and four basketballs each to score as many points as possible. The minute passes quickly with you getting the most points, Eli coming second and Demetri coming in last, still chasing after the basketballs that he has somehow managed to fumble amongst the other arcade machines.

The next game you play is skee-ball. As great as you are at shooting some hoops, you are not so good at aiming the smaller balls down a lane and up a slope to land in holes. Eli easily beats you but is humble enough to only give you an elbow in the side each, no verbal bragging.

Demetri's game of choice is an alien shooter game with bright flashing lights and you each get a gun to use to shoot the most aliens. Eli holds his own pretty well but Demetri shows no mercy taking down the majority of the aliens and has no qualms in pushing the gun in your hands off target to make you miss your shots. You try to get back at him by bumping him with your hip to ruin his aim but it does nothing to make his tall body waver.

You don't notice the knowing looks Eli gives the two of you as you continue to squabble.

Demetri wins the shooter game by a landslide. Now with the score tied between the three of you, the only way to decide a winner was a free-for-all game of laser-tag. You manage to get a time slot for only three players and make your way into the set-up point, you each grab a vest with a gun attached and slip them on.

Eli picks the display colour on his vest to be red, Demetri is blue, and you pick green. You tap your feet impatiently as the uninterested looking teenager working explains the rules, giving the typical tired blurb about not running and to play safely.

A countdown begins, giving 30 seconds for the players to disperse into the maze of walls and ramps before the game actually begins. As soon as the door opens Eli immediately darts off to the right to hunker down in a collections of walls that make a little fortress. Demetri awkwardly jogs off to the left to stalk in the corners and shadows, surprisingly limber and quiet for such an uncoordinated individual.

'Well i guess there's no direction to go but straight' you think to yourself before setting off in that direction, finding a set of ramps leading to opposite sides of a small lookout where you can see over the majority of the map. 'Oh these suckers are going down!'

The countdown finishes and you hear Eli give out a battle-cry followed by footsteps from your left racing across the map. You keep your gun aimed at the ramps, alternating between the two to keep an eye on both possible entrances to your fortress. You hear the cries of both Eli and Demetri as they sneak up on one another and shoot each other, earning themselves points.

It isn't long before they realise you are not lower on the battlefield and they deduce where you are hiding out. They both try individually to rush up the ramps but you've kept a good eye on both and keep the boys at bay. 'I'm not gonna get ahead on points if I just sit here and wait for them to come to me'.

You sneak down one of the ramps when the boys have retreated and duck behind one of the walls. You watch from your hiding spot as Eli tip-toes up one of the ramps. You crouch low and creep around the side of the wall and train your gun at Eli's vest. You pull the trigger and hear the trigger noise and the power down sound of Eli's vest when it registers that you've shot him. He whirls around in shock to see you standing there before he darts off to hide and wait for
his vest to power back up. You let out a victory whoop and run back behind the wall for cover. You press your back to the wall, chest heaving with effort and adrenaline. You peer around the wall to look out for Eli but you don't see him. You pull back and turn to sneak off around the other side of the wall when you suddenly run into someone's vest, a vest with blue lights and a gun aimed directly at your chest.

You look up into the eyes of Demetri, brooding with determination and something else. "Go on, do it... or are you too scared? " You taunt, sticking your chin up in defiance.

"Scared? You think i'm too scared?" Demetri asked, voice dipping lower than usual.

"If you're not, then do it", you respond. Your eyes flash with an edge of determination. You think Demetri is going to shoot you until he removes a hand from his gun to grasp the side and back of your neck and dips his head to press a chaste but passionate kiss on your lips. He pulls back before you can even register what just happened. You look up at him questioningly.

"You told me to do it, you didn't specify what" Demetri whispers with a huskiness to his voice. He starts to think that maybe he misread your banter and just obliterated any friendship you two had. Demetri takes a step back but you grab him by the straps of his vest and pull him back to you and he knocks against your own vest. You pull him down to you as you press upwards and your lips meet, moulding together perfectly, your kiss filled with the built up feelings from months upon months of flirting.

"Finally; you took the bloody hint" you whisper against his lips, kissing him again and forgetting where you are. That is until you hear the power down sound of your vest and Demetri's as you are both shot.

"It's about damn time, it's been painful watching you two dancing around each other for months", Eli exclaimed before racing off, laughing maniacally at having shot you two just seconds before the lights came back on to signal the end of the game.

The three of you walk out of the game room and out to the board to see who won.

Demetri - 5,640

Y/N - 5,935

Eli - 6,110.

You turn to Demetri, "Well I guess neither of us won", you say to him. He looks at Eli and asks him, "Well dude, you're the winner. What do you want your prize to be?"

"For you two to finally get together", he says with a roll of his eyes and walks away to redeem the tickets won from the arcade earlier.

You slide your hand into Demetri's causing him to look down at you, "I think we can give him that, don't you?" you ask with a smile. He responds with a nod, squeezing your hand. The two of you join Eli at the counter, still holding hands which he looks down at with a smile.

Finally.
