CHAPTER 06
✧﹕παιδί της αγάπης
━━━━━━━━━
THE CUSPS OF resting and returning, Matthias breathed in his stress as his hands shook from the vigor and exhaustion. Bile rose in his throat, threatening to spill on the grass he sat on. Slapping a hand to his mouth, he leant back until he was lying on the grass, preventing his vomit from escaping his mouth. It was a disconcerting thought to suppress the urge to vomit; to which his insides churned and his other hand clasped over his throat.
In the distance, he heard Ares and Apollo argue about him. The third day of training was no different from the first. His sword was still too heavy. He would have told Ares about it, but after the threat on the first day, he clamped his mouth shut immediately. The embarrassment of being beaten every single time was something he had to endure; every lost made him feel worse.
He really did need to get a better sword. Too much of a coward to speak it out — enduring was the only thing he could do by this point.
The number of times he's felt like vomiting was unknown. The Fates were absolute bitches.
When the urge to vomit died down, he swallowed thickly and gagged at the taste of his bile. He sat up quickly, taking in deep breaths — silently praying that it wouldn't go back up.
Drops of sweat ran down his face, his vision blurred as he stared at the horribly heavy blade that sat between his legs. He ran his fingers over the flat surface of the sword, shuddering at the cool metal. It was something celestial if it was useful against the monsters of ancient myth. Normal metal wouldn't be able to pierce through the monstrous skin of those myths that were practically horror stories to the mortal bastards of the gods.
Flinching, he pulled away from the blade, hoisting it up and setting it beside him. He pursed his lips, clasping his hands together as he took in even deeper breathes. His lungs filled with frosty cold; unable to deny the sensation of invisible water particles that were ever present in the air. Jade eyes stared at calloused palms, narrowing as water suddenly swirled like a tornado inside of them.
For years, Water has always been the most flexible element he's known. Capable of becoming liquid, solid, and gas. It felt like it was everywhere and nowhere. Perhaps that's why Zeus was threatened by Poseidon the most.
It's a comfort in his hands, allowing the water to swirl and form into a snakelike shape. The water slipped between his fingers, its cold sensation lingering as they passed. Breathe in, breath out. Breathe in, breathe out; he repeated like a cursed mantra as the water shaped itself into something else.
