It wasn't the sun that drew Sean awake it was the sound of footsteps, and whispering. He looked down through the trees to see the warriors from his village cutting up branches and tying them together. He flinched when the king hit the ground with immense speed and force, holding both wolf carcasses over his back. He laid them out on the cart his warriors had just fashioned and then pointed up into the tree Sean was in.
Sean struggled in the hammock to climb out but before he could get even halfway out the hammock was cut and he was once again in a near free-fall as someone had his hammock bundled up like a sack with him in it. The beast landed and toss him to the ground even harder than Mâvis did.
He scrambled to his feet and snatched up the hammock. Then a look of sheer panic washed over his face as he realized the warriors were closing in on him, "Wait, what is going on?" His voice was pitchy as the badly scarred guard he recognized as Reagan grabbed him and pinned him to the ground, tying his hands behind his back. He was tossed onto one of the travois next to a wolf carcass and strapped down.
The last thing he saw before the guards carted him off with the kill was the smug grin on the king's face as he wound up the hammock.
By evening, they had entered a large camp and he could hear female voices, including the queen's voice. He lay there bound and helpless as he watched feet pass by him several times. Finally, the straps were cut and he could feel his body hoisted off the cart and tossed to the ground. He grunted in pain as he squirmed to look up at who had thrown him.
The king had his wife cornered up against a tree and he was involved in a rather provocative kiss. As soon as he finished he spoke for the first time since Sean had met him, "Oh, I have missed you woman. I do not like this rule you place on me for the hunt. I promise to break it." He was in a full purr as he stole another kiss before straightening up and looking down at the bundle tied at his feet. Mâvis reached down, hauled Sean to his feet, and shook him a couple times like a rag doll to show her. "Now tell me what this is."
She looked nervously at Sean as she answered her husband, "I rescued him, and a few others."
"How many, Genevieve? I have been seeing them all over the village."
"There is a dozen altogether, husband. Please do not kill him, I worked so hard to get them back to health." Her eyes were watering.
"Tell me now, are the rest of them like this one? I promise you they will not last the day if they are. The only reason he still lives is because Abbott does not like it when I kill cubs." He flung Sean back to the ground.
Abbott was now looking down at him shaking his head in pity, "Oh he is fully mature, I assure you."
The king scoffed, "You cannot be serious." Then his tone changed as his eyes met Sean's and he picked up his axe, "Ohh, but please tell me you are."
Abbott responded, "Would be such a shame to go through all that trouble rescuing him just to kill him now. Wouldn't it?"
"I would not be bothered in the least, you got a good kill in Abbott, it was worth the trip."
Sean whimpered through his gag as Mâvis squatted down and hauled him closer using the ropes, he positioned his axe at Sean's throat and was enjoying the fear in the young man's eyes when an unfamiliar delicate voice said to him. "Please don't"
Mâvis's attention flung to who was addressing him, "What is that?"
The tiny pink haired girl stepped closer and wiped her tears, "I'm Kate, and that's my boyfriend. Please don't kill him."
