With King William receiving word of the female hunt, curiosity soon took over the ambitious king and he decided to pay a visit just to understand the dynamics of the hunt. Although his visits rarely involved his wife and son, this time would be different to make use of the doctor.
They normally would be welcomed right into the great room, but for the first time they arrived in the middle of a meeting already in progress. While King Mâvis sought to wrap up the discussion Genevieve and Jocelyn opted to entertain the neighboring royal family in the square. Genevieve and Olivia sat by the fountain to discuss the latest gossip, while Jocelyn pressed her luck balancing on the slippery railing.
With half her attention on Olivia's rather handsome son she lost her balance nearly slipping in. He pulled her off in his direction and caught her before she could land on the ground. He laughed, "Do you not think you should be more careful?" His accent captivated her as he spoke and she bit her lip as she found his human expressions rather enchanting.
He placed her in a proper seating position next to her mother and reached into his satchel, "I almost forgot I brought you a gift."
"How delightful, um, Garrett, is it?" She lit up when he nodded and handed her a handmade box. It was sanded smooth and painted shiny red. She opened it to find a lovely silver pendant in side.
"I stole it from a sunken vessel in a river on my island. The next time you visit I will show it to you, would you like that?" He chuckled at her over eager nod. "We have to stick together you and I. We are both humans with Joutone parents. No one will know our endeavors as we do."
He was right, she thought. Both their parents were Joutone. Joutone royalty in fact. They were the same. They had so much in common, and he was so utterly handsome. He would be hers, she decided it then and there. She did not have to marry some battle hardened Joutone warrior. Not when she could have a handsome, human prince.
He pinched her nose in play and waltzed off to join his friend Harris while she sat admiring the lovely pendant around her neck. Flipping it back and forth repeatedly to be sure of which side she liked better.
Sean and Kate sat on the steps outside the great room waiting for the guards to usher them in. It had been so long since the guards had brought them up that Kathrine was starting to dose off against Sean. Finally, the door opened and the friendly doctor they had been talking so much with, came out. "I hope the two of you are hungry. We have a nice lunch set up for some honored guests. You are welcome to join us for the duration or eat early and depart when they arrive."
Kathrine sat up and pulled her hair into a bundle before tying it up with a scrunchie from her wrist. Sean gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before she got up and they held hands the entire way into the great hall. On the way in they noticed one of the guards at the table already, with a bowl of food he was working on. There were three empty seats and Sean held Kate's hand tightly as he steered her towards the side with two vacant spots next to each other.
Mâvis cleared his throat and ushered Kate to take a seat next to him. She quietly turned to follow his instruction only to find Sean unwilling to let her go. The entire room watched as they started a little whispering argument with each other. It came to a complete halt when Mâvis's said, "You are in my court and will do as you are told. There will be no further discussion on such an insignificant matter." Kate ripped her hand from Sean's grip, scolding him with her eyes as she rounded the table and sat by the king.
Sean merely reached for the chair directly across from her when Mâvis pointed to the next one down taking sincere mental note of the attitude given as he moved over. Abbott took his usual seat next to the king and was immediately handed papers to go through.
