No one was more surprised than Anadil to see Hester Ray walk into the library at 3 o'clock that day. Anadil scrambled to pull out her Calculus book, looking at her in surprise.

"You're back?" Anadil asked. "I thought you were too good for tutoring."

Hester shrugged. "Well, my step-mom would kill me if I didn't go to tutoring, so I might as well go. I was thinking..." she looked away, wringing her hands. "I was thinking maybe we could do our session somewhere else?"

Anadil narrowed her eyes, searching for an ulterior motive. "And why is that?" She asked, already imagining scenarios where this tall, greasy girl with a tattoo across her neck beat her up in an alley.

"I just don't like the quiet. I used to like libraries, but the quiet makes me uncomfortable now. So, what do you say?"

Anadil was still suspicious, but she agreed, shoving her books back into her bag. "So where to?"

"What about the pub down the street?" Hester suggested, trying way too hard to seem nonchalant. Anadil still sensed an ulterior motive, but if this girl tried anything, she'd be prepared.

"Well, let's go," she said. "And don't try anything."
