Lady Sarah of New York decided to meet with Galavant at the Ye Horse's Arse in order to persuade him into helping the princess. There she found our hero sitting at the bar, drunkenly asking the bartender Tommy for another round of Keg. Of course, Tommy refused since Galavant hasn't been himself for a year and is drinking his sorrows away. Even when Galavant uses his charm, it wasn't enough for another drink, in fact he was embarrassing himself. The knight then noticed an ember glow shining against the tin of his cup, turning around to see Sarah with the Jewel of Valencia in her gloved hand. "Have I caught your attention now, Sir Galavant?" she asked with a smirk,
Galavant sighed drunkenly as he noticed the one holding the jewel, even collapsing to the ground from his seat as he tried to walk away. Eventually he got back on his feet and strode towards Lady Sarah with a charming smile, "Can I buy you a drink?"
"No thank you" said Sarah, "Have a seat and let's discuss on the matter of Princess Isabella"
"Good, then you can buy me one"
"You need to be sober for this. I suggest you eat something to get the alcohol to settle down a bit so you can properly listen to what I have to say"Galavant agrees and enjoys his meal as Sarah tells him what happened two months ago from the Princess' point of view. She explained that Isabella overheard King Richard demanding her parents to tell him about the jewel's whereabouts or else the kingdom would be doomed. Despite trying to peacefully make amends with the ruler, King Richard refused until he got his hands on the jewel for the Queen, even though she's a.... What do you call it? A bitch? Well aside from that, the king tried to persuade the rulers of Valencia to surrender the jewel to his wife, then he would stop the killings and pillaging and go on with their day. Besides the fact that the Jewel of Valencia is priceless, it is the symbol of the kingdom, which means it did not belong to the royals but the people of Valencia for thousands of years.
So yeah, they were not giving up the jewel for a heartless queen and a foolish king. Just when Sarah was about to continue the story, she couldn't help but stare at Galavant in disgust as he devoured the leg of meat in his hands like a wild animal. The knight then asked his squire to fetch him another drink before turning attention to the maiden. "By the way, thanks again for the drink" he said with his mouth full
"Drinks" Sarah hiss
"Right. Thanks again"
"My mother used to tell me stories about you when I was little back in New York. About your skills in battle, your heroism, your goodness. Now all I see is a bum you can't even get over his ex for an entire year, drinking his sorrows and not bathing like a normal human being"Galavant spits his food to the ground before turning his attention back to Sarah, caring less about her backstory or how she got here in the first place. "What happened to you?" she asked, "I mean, besides the obvious"
Galavant didn't respond, eating his bread
"Oh come on, Isabella and I came a long way. Surely I deserve some kind of backstory"
The knight hesitates before finally giving in, telling the maiden about his childhood, which he'd never done before. Galavant's parents were people with massive, massive appetites. They loved everything, food and drink, but most of all, they loved each other. Ironically, they also hated each other, fighting violently with one another. They didn't even have time to enjoy the little things in life. This made Sarah's heart ache after hearing the hero's backstory. It felt too close to home, since her parents were pretty much the same. When her mother left as a child, Sarah's father basically ignored her and developed addictions to gambling and drinking. She didn't show any emotion and continued to listen to Galavant's story, seeing how he swore to himself never to fall in love at the age of 8. For years, he'd travel the world to study languages, learning how to fight and defend himself. So while men were chasing young women to court with, Galavant focused on bettering himself. "I come from a long line of lovers" he said, "You can't fight genetics"
Sarah smiled and shook her head, "No, you cannot. Let me guess, after years of swearing off love, you met Madalena and fell in love the moment you laid eyes on her?"
Galavant chuckled and nodded, "Yep, that was it. I fell hard for her"
"Yet, she fell softer?"
"Yeah"
"Yikes, well I'm sorry that happened to you Galavant"
The knight kindly accepts the apology then sits up in his seat to get straight to the point. "Look, I'd love to help you and Princess Isabella, really, I would" He said, "But I'm sort of out of the whole 'Damsel in distress' business at the moment so.."Princess Isabella steps in and joins the two with Sid following close behind with another round of ale. "I listened from below as he ordered my parents to their death" Isabella glared at the hero, "And after coming all this way, your advice is for me to just turn a blind eye and watch King Richard destroy my kingdom and everyone I've ever loved?"
Galavant paused, staring at the princess with interest in his striking blue eyes, "Did you say King Richard?"
"Yes" said Isabella, "I'm pretty sure Lady Sarah said that when she told you"
"I did, like 5 times" said SarahBut there was one thing that Princess Isabella left out of the story. She was caught by King Richard's guards and was presented before him with her family by her side. Gareth found the Jewel of Valencia in the hands of the princess, handing it to his king so they could admire it. Richard rolled his eyes after the Queen checked up on him on the jewel process, comparing him to Galavant yet again before leaving the throne room. It was then King Richard got himself an idea the moment his eyes laid on the princess. "You love your parents, don't you, my dear?" he asked
Isabella glared at the king, "Leave my parents be. Leave them be, or so help me, I will kill you myself"
"And spunky~"
Gareth laughed, "More like chunky"King Richard glared at his right hand before turning his attention back to the princess of Valencia once he sat on the throne. He ordered the princess to find Galavant, telling her to tell him that he, King Richard, had invaded her kingdom, and offered to pay him with the Jewel of Valencia. If that doesn't work, Richard tells Isabella to say to Galavant, "King Richard is a cruel and vicious man. Four months I've hidden in that cellar. He and his queen slept right above me. Every night I would listen while he screamed at his queen, and each night I would be left with only the sobs of that poor woman. Every night she would cry out 'I made the wrong choice. I'm so sorry, Gals. I'm so sorry.' She must've left some maidens back home"
Before the two could make the deal, the sounds of groans and swords clashing were heard from outside the throne room. "Wha-what is that?" asked King Richard, "Gareth, what's happening right now?"
"Not sure, my king" said Gareth, leaving the king's side to check what's happening. The moment he opened the door, a guard was sent flying through the open door to the ground. Before Gareth could deal with the intruder, two more guards were thrown towards him, causing the three to fall as the cloaked intruder entered the throne room. Isabella's parents pulled their daughter close in case this stranger was any threat while the rest of the guards stayed alert. The cloaked stranger removed their hood to reveal Lady Sarah of New York with a sword in hand and a steely gaze. Her dark eyes turn toward King Richard, pointing her sword toward him. "You" she said, "Are you King Richard?"
The king was flattered by this, swinging himself a bit before grinning like an idiot toward the maiden. "Maybe~" he said, "Does the name strike fear in your heart?"
"No, but that outfit certainly does"
King Richard wasn't pleased by the comeback before he yelled, "Guards! Finish her-Oh!"
Sarah pointed her sword to the king's neck, her eyes burning into his soul as a warning.
"Wait!... I... changed my mind"
"A wise decision"Once Sarah puts her sword away, she turns her attention to the king, queen, and princess of Valencia, bowing before their presence. "You majesties" she said, "If you wish to keep your daughter safe, I shall escort her to Sir Galavant to help save your kingdom"
Isabella glanced at King Richard, who smirked and tilted his head toward Sarah, signaling her to go to seal the deal. "I shall go" said Isabella, "You will be rewarded handsomely for your bravery and bringing me to Sir Galavant"
"Oh I don't need any money, Princess. Just on a journey of my own and hope that Gal would help"Surprisingly Isabella agreed and off they went for the next four months to find our hero Galavant in hopes they could help one another. Galavant was intrigued by the offer and accepted the deal, promising the princess to restore her kingdom to its former glory. But mostly to win the heart of Madalena once more. Isabella was feeling guilty at this point, using the knight as a pawn in this game Richard was playing. Sarah could tell something was wrong but decided not to bring it up. She looked up to see a look in Galavant's eyes, one much like the one he had once worn on the day he arrived at the castle to rescue his true love.
