For any normal teenager, a boarding school two hours away from your parents would be a dream come true but for Gerard, it was honestly the last thing he'd want to fucking do. Most teenagers would be excited with the newfound freedom and the allure of experimenting with vices such as drugs, intimacy, and illicit activities away from the watchful eye of their parents. It wasn't that he had any opposition to the idea of enjoying the bittersweet taste of rebellion; it was the unsettling idea of being thrust into an unfamiliar environment and the thought of having to share a room with someone he'd never met before. This crushed all these wonderful ideas and fantasies, not that he was much of a social drinker or smoker anyway.

The only reason he was even going to this school was because of the incidents that happened at his previous school and because of Mikey's genius for pulling off an amazing full ride for himself so their parents only had to pay for one of them. This time though, Gerard was going to play it safe so he wouldn't have to go through the extremities of the bullying and homophobia he had to tolerate at his previous school. In fact, he probably would have never been publicly out if it hadn't been for his asshole of an ex for outing him to the entire student body post-breakup. All of this aside, a fancy private school has to be better than public, for $30,000 it sure as hell should be.

Gerard groaned as he sat up in his bed, stretching and simultaneously knocking a day-old cup of coffee off of his nightstand. "Fuck" he said, attempting to sop up the coffee dripping down the leg of the nightstand and onto the floor beneath it. "Hey, you up Gee?" Mikey asked, poking his head into Gerard's room.

"Yeah, unfortunately" he responded as he sat up once again to look at him.

"Come on, it's not going to be that bad, I know you enjoy being a loser but give it a chance".

"Fuck you, idiot," Gerard said, throwing one of his pillows at Mikey and laughing.

"Whatever" Mikey responded, leaving him alone once again to ruminate on his thoughts.

His room felt strangely empty, almost as if it had been stripped of its personality overnight, the only things that remained were the comforter he slept in last night, a few essentials and the new school uniform ironed and pressed hanging up in his closet. Everything else had been already stuffed into boxes and moved into his dad's car. It felt weird being in his room as it was a stark contrast to the walls adorned with posters, receipts, and other bits of his old life that used to clutter the space. He pulled on his brown slacks and buttoned up his collared shirt, sliding a sweater vest on top and fastening his brown and tan tie around his neck. Although unhappy he had to wear a uniform during school hours, he was grateful his school had flexible uniforms with options on whether students wanted to wear a variety of school blazers, cardigans, or vests.

Gerard made his way downstairs, fluffing his black hair as he walked into the kitchen. He nodded to Mikey who was leaning against the granite counter as he grabbed the handle of the coffee pot and poured himself a cup. They were planning on leaving in the next hour or so to make the two-hour drive with their parents to the main campus so they could get moved in and settled before the orientation assembly later that afternoon. "You look like a dork Mikes" Gerard snickered, looking his brother up and down. Mikey was dressed in the same uniform as him but with a blazer in place of the vest, his silver name tag pinned neatly on the upper part near the school crest. In true Mikey fashion, he wore his glasses on the tip of his nose in a way that if he looked down too far they'd hit the floor.

"Well, you're one to talk" he piped back, shoving Gerard's shoulder playfully. Mikey wasn't wrong, he spent most of his days in his room reading and doing other dorky shit anyway.

"Whatever Mikey," he said going back to his room to gather the last of his things.

When the Way family arrived at the school it was a chaotic whirlwind of students and parents rushing to get in last-minute forms and stressing over the typical events of move-in day. The main halls and courtyards were filled with families moving boxes, suitcases, and other personal belongings into one of the four housing buildings. The four residence halls were home to the hundreds of students that attended Captiosus Prepatory School, two buildings for girls and two for boys. Luckily for Mikey and Gerard, they lived in the same building and on the same floor, so at least they wouldn't be too far from each other.
