Lisa woke to glistening sunlight pouring in through the dew covered windows, causing her to squint and shift away from the light.
She pulled the bedsheets further over her shoulders and dug her face into the pillows. Hoping to drift back to sleep again as her temples began thumping rhythmically. But just before sleep whisked her away, the faint sound of the television caught her attention.
Shifting once more, she watched as a young boy talked about the crocodiles in his families zoo when she noticed movement out of the corner of her eyes. Turning slowly, her grogginess cleared at the sight of blonde hair and delicate features. A soft smile on Rosie's lips as her eyes remained glued on the tv ahead, soaking in the animal facts from the young Irwin.
Her residual anxiety from the night prior lifting as relief gradually replaced it, knowing she didn't have to worry about things going back to the way they were before.
Because she could still see her.
The idea that she may not be able to after waking was something that had kept her up last night. Until her body physically couldn't go without sleep any longer, and she had to succumb to the fact that Rosie may become an unnatural feeling and twinkling lights again...
But as she lay there, gazing at the side profile of a ghost who only ever asked to watch animal planet or the discovery channel, she couldn't help but feel tremendously thankful.
To who... she didn't know. But she was thankful nonetheless, as Rosie shifted slightly, and met her gaze.
"Morning."
Her cheeks warmed immediately at being caught staring. Only glancing away for a brief moment, before the possibility of being able to further study the silver woman's face lured her back.
Rosie still watching her with those big, honey brown eyes...
"Hey." She replied slowly. Her heartbeat returning to its usual pace within her chest.
"Hi." Rosie smiled. "How'd you sleep?"
"Oh- uh... okay."
"Just okay?" The blonde frowned. "But... no nightmares?"
She thought for a moment, the corners of her lips tugging upwards at the realization. "Appears so... no nightmares. Unless I can't remember them."
"That's fine by me." Rosie's grin reappeared as she shifted onto her side to look at her directly, until the sunlight caught her attention. "It's gorgeous outside."
"Yeah." She replied quietly. Turning to face her fully as well, as she made another comment in her head.
Not as much as you.
God. She couldn't believe herself for even thinking that. But at the same time, she could, because it was true. Every word Chunhua spoke. Every comical idea that the ghost she shared her space with was unrealistically stunning held up to her previous imaginations.
