Just Study Buddies

Chapter 23:

Natsu sat at the Sola Tree with Happy and Romeo waiting for Wendy, Carla and Lucy for school. Wendy and Carla walk out of the girls dorm looking depressed. They approach the boys.

"Where's Luce?" Natsu asks worriedly.

"L-Lucy?!" Wendy didn't know what to say. Gajeel told them not to tell Natsu about Lucy. Wendy turns paler and starts trembling. "Lucy is sick... She'll be okay later, just a fever..." Carla says.

Romeo looks at Wendy worriedly. "Is Wendy sick too Carla?" Romeo asked.

Wendy shakes her head in disagreement. "L-Let's just get to school..." Wendy grabs Romeo's hand and slowly drags him away. Romeo's face goes pink and he goes with her. Natsu sighed and walked away alone. Happy and Carla flew away too.

Wendy turned around and made sure Natsu and Carla was out of sight, which they were. She drops Romeo's hand and collapsed on the ground sobbing.

"Wendy?!" Romeo kneeled down. "Lucy...." Wendy continued sobbing. Romeo hugged Wendy. "Wendy what's wrong?! Tell me now!" Romeo says holding her tightly.

Wendy wrapped her arms around Romeo and sobbed more. "Lucy is in hospital" She said shakily. They sat on the ground hugging. Romeo rubbed Wendy's back. "Why?" He asks. "S-She was beaten up by Laxus last night... And a girl snook into the hospital room and cut her arms. She's in a terrible state..." Wendy says still sobbing.

Romeo's eyes widen. "Why didn't you tell Natsu?!" He asks. "G-Gajeel said not to... S-She was beaten up b-because of N-Natsu..." Wendy whispers. "What did Natsu do?" Romeo whispers. Wendy sniffed. "A-Apparently someone heard Lucy talking about him... I don't know what she said... But Mirajane was the one who heard..." Wendy whispers.

"Okay, Wendy... Me and you are going to ditch school today... We can go to your apartment so you can freshen up so people won't look at you and ask why you were crying, and then we will go visit Lucy. I promise not to tell Natsu." Romeo whispers.

Wendy nods shakily. She sniffed again. Romeo puts Wendy on his back and carries her to her room and opens the door. He lightly sits her on her bed. "Go freshen up... I'll stay out here..." He says and sits on the sofa.

"Ok" Wendy says and runs into the bathroom.

About a half hour later she walks out. Romeo was sitting on the couch looking forward.

"Thank you Romeo..." Wendy says and sits next to him. "For what?" He asks. Wendy hugs him. "For being a great friend..." Wendy whispers. He hugs her back. "No problem..." He whispers back. They hugged for ages.

Romeo hugs Wendy tighter. He kisses her head lightly. "Let's go..." He says. Wendy's face goes red. "O-Ok" she says.

Cana sat on the chair next to Lucy's hospital bed asleep. Lucy say up in her bed wide awake. She was covered in cuts and bruises. Her arm was covered in a long bandage that covered the X's on her arm. She had a huge purple bruise on her neck and a gash a over her right eyebrow.

She was looking out the window. She could see the street were she was beaten up last night. Her eyes fill with tears.

The door opens and she turns her head to look. She groans in pain. A girl runs up to her and throws herself at Lucy. Romeo walked in behind her.

Wendy was sobbing. "Lucy!!!" She continued sobbing. Lucy rubbed Wendy's head. "Hello Wendy and Romeo" Lucy smiles.

Romeo's eyes fill with tears. "A-Are you alright?!" He asks. "I'm alright... Just in a little bit of pain, I'll be back at school tomorrow." Lucy says with a smile.

"Yay!" Wendy snuggles Lucy.

"What's Natsu gonna say...?" Romeo asks.

"Natsu isn't gonna know what happened... We just tell him I got attacked by a wolf, okay?" Lucy says in a serious tone. "Say that to anyone who asks" she adds.

Romeo nods. "Natsu isn't gonna buy it... But I'll try..." He says.

Suddenly the brunette's eyes flutter open. "Lucy!!!" She says. "I'm so sorry..." Her eyes fill with tears.

Lucy smiles. "It wasn't your fault. Please don't apologise" she says. Cana sniffs. "O-Okay"
