In the night

Jodha was sitting in the garden watching the moon. She smiled remembering her time talking with Salima Begum. They talked a lot about each other's religion and its commonalities. Jalal was walking towards his chamber when he saw Jodha sitting in the garden. He grinned and walked towards her.

Jodha was busy looking at the moon when she saw Shahenshah standing near.

"Pranaam Shahenshah. You here?" she asked.

"I was going to my chamber when I saw you sitting here. So, I came. What are you doing here?" he asked.

"I am sitting here watching the moon." she replied looking back at the moon.

Jalal looked at the moon and then at Jodha who looked really beautiful basked in the moonlight.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" she asked looking at the moon.

"Yes. It really is." he said in a trance while looking at her.

Jodha looked at him who was looking at her in a trance.

"Shahenshah?" she said.

"Huh? What?" he asked coming out of his stupor.

"Nothing." she said.

Jodha once again looked at the moon and smiled. Jalal looked at her and then the moon and back to her.

"Why are you looking at the moon?" he asked.

"Have you not seen the moon properly?" she asked.

"No. I have not got the time to, and I feel it's a waste of time too." he said.

Then there was silence.

"What is the reason you keep on looking at the moon." he asked.

"Because of peace. I feel at peace while looking at the moon. It's really soothing to be near nature." she said smiling.

He then sat down. Jodha looked at him.

"If it's a waste of time for you, then why sit?" she asked.

"Peace is not only for you. Even I want to feel peace. So, I will also sit here and watch?" he said.

Jodha smiled.

"You really love nature, don't you?" he asked.

"Yes. I really love to be near nature." she said looking at him.

"I do too. Nature is god's creation and it's wonderful." he said softly.

Jodha looked at him smiling. She remembered her conversation with Anu.

Flashback

"Heer Jiji, try to be friends with Shahenshah. He is not bad. Being friends with him, I found that he is a softie at heart. Do you know he had to ascend the throne when he was really young. Because of it, he had to grow up fast and due to this he lost his childhood. I kind of pity him." Anu said sadly.

"Pity? Why?" Jodha asked.

"He is surrounded by people who is taking advantage of him. I am sure you know the way Maham Anga manipulates him." Anu said.

"Yes." Jodha said remembering Maham Anga fake tears.

"He says he doesn't have a heart, yet he shows his love for his family. If he doesn't have a heart, then how can he love his mother, sister and his family?" Anu asked.

"You are right. But I can't forget what he did with Kali Maa. His soldiers came and looted the temple and took away Kaali Maa's ornaments. The disrespect Moti had to face." Jodha said angrily.

"Did he order them to? Did he do the deed himself?" Anu asked.

"No but..." Jodha said.

"Heer Jiji, I'm sure he doesn't have any idea about it. I am sure he didn't give any such order to his soldiers." Anu said.

"Why are you so sure about that?" Jodha asked.

"Because he respects our religion." Anu said.

Jodha looked at her confused. Anu spoke.

"Jiji, if he didn't respect our religion, he would have made us convert our religion. But he didn't. He agreed when we didn't want to convert after the marriage. He even allowed you to have a mandir in the palace and let you pray the way you want, and he also allowed all the Hindu people in the palace to celebrate Holi. Do you think such a person would do such a deed like looting the ornaments of our Goddess?" Anu asked.

Jodha kept quiet.

Flashback Ends

Jodha realized Shahenshah is not a bad person. The feeling of contemplation went away. Jodha and Jalal talked with each other.

"Shahenshah, I will take my leave now." Jodha stood up. Jalal also stood.

She then started to walk but stopped and looked back and spoke.

"Shahenshah, I wanted to say that I don't hate you anymore." she said.

Jalal looked at her shocked.

"I mean, I did hate you before, but now I don't. I have started to trust you. I hope we can be friends." she said nervously.

It was silent for some time.

"Sure. Let's be friends, Jodha Begum." Jalal said breaking the silence.

Jodha smiled and went away. Her heart was beating fast. Jalal on the other hand was feeling confused. He felt happy that Jodha doesn't hate him.

"Maybe, just maybe me and Jodha Begum could be friends. It's better than her hating me." he thought. He smiled softly unknowingly.
