THIRD PERSON3 years later
'I need you to promise me something, I need you to adopt her'
His mothers words played in his head as he sat back in his desk playing with his lighter, the files Nazaire had dropped off sat on his desk. The war had ended last year but though the possibility of a potential threat made Donatello hesitant to bring Iris.
The jet would soon be arriving ready for him and Nazaire to pick her up and finalise the adoption meaning he had to go and tell the rest of the brothers.
Straightening his suit he called everyone into the family room, looking at his watch as he entered.
"I'm adopting a young girl called Iris," making everyone look at Donatello with mixed expressions, though not one was humorous and the knew he was serious.
He never joked, he also tended not to laugh. He was a good brother, he raised them, fought for them and would always protect them. They all knew they had his undying loyalty and love but sometimes they questioned if he liked them. He never spent time with them, laughed with them and he only spoke to them when necessary.
"Mother wanted it to happen before she died, though we were occupied with the conflict," he understand the war given the presence of Nario "though now it's over we're bringing her back." he finished his tone not suggesting it was up for debate.
And yet Dante opened his mouth, ready to debate.
"No, she's not coming here," Dante spat.
Donatello raised his eyebrow at the defiance shown by his younger, temperamental brother.
Next to him sat Valerius and though he hadn't vocalised his refusal it was clear at the way his leg bounced that he was bound to at any moment.
'Here we go again' Lorenzo thought to himself.
Dante and Valerius were both known for the temper, whilst they were loving they were also very argumentative and the latter was often the side that they showed. Both their tempers has worsened with their mothers death.
Grief changed people, some for the better others for the worse.
"She can't stay," Valerius muttered
It was now two against three.
"And why not?" Emiliano countered.
"She's a stranger we don't know her and you just expect us to be okay with that, we have enough going on as it is we don't need extra weight to burden ourselves with," Valerius knew that what he said would change nothing so he he left the living room and soon the from door was slammed.
With furrowed eyebrows Nario spoke up, "So does this mean that we'll have a sister?" His legs swinging softly against the sofa, his feet not yet reaching the ground.
"Yeah it does." Emilio smiled.
Nario smiled back slightly before jumping off the sofa and running somewhere with Lorenzo walking quickly behind him using it as an excuse to leave the room.
"Well that went well," Valentino laughed before placing his headphones back on his head.

"Come in," Iris called out as she heard the knocks on her door.
"Iris dear, I have some news," Mrs Wood started,
At hearing this Iris sat up closing her book as she waited for Mrs Wood to continue.
"There's someone that would like to adopt you,"
"No thank you," she quickly declined.
Mrs Wood gave closed her door not wanting the other kids to over hear, Iris knew she was going to try and convince her so she spoke before Mrs Wood could.
"I can't, I don't want to be adopted,"
Mrs Wood looked at the girl with sadness on her face "At least meet them, they're coming from New York to meet you,"
Iris scrunched her eyebrows together, "New York?"
"Yes, New York,"
"Why is someone travelling all the way from New York to try and adopt me," Iris questioned slightly creeped out.
"Apparently you were going to be adopted by them before their mother died but they wished to continue the process," Mrs Wood said gently, she knew very little about Iris, she never opened up about anything, she honestly never really spoke at all.
Iris instantly knew she was talking about Amalea, the woman who she silently grieved everyday.
"No, I will ever leave you and I would never leave you alone, ever,"
Thinking back to there last conversation she knew that this is what she would have meant, but she wasn't sure. She knew that Amalea wasn't bad, so surely her children wouldn't be but she was still slighty apprehensive. From what she remembered Amalea had all boys and she didn't know how she felt about just living with men.
Wanting to just get back to her book she agreed to meeting them, Mrs Wood smiled before closing Iris's door leaving her alone to think about her situation until she drove herself sick.
