A clash of thunder startled my dream away and caused me to wake. I sat up straight in bed, half tangled in my covers as I looked around my dark room, flashes of lightning creating strange shadows. I could hear a yowling, like a cat, but the strange thing was when the yowling turned to a sobbing. Another flash of lightning sent me flying from my bed, and hiding beneath it. I hated lightning, I had a huge fear of it. I could hear the rain drumming against our tin roof, and next doors dog barking. I crawled out from under my bed when the sobbing started up again, the sound was so pitiful, I couldn't stand it.
I braced myself as I rushed to my bedroom door, hiding behind the wall just in time for another flash of lightning, and the deep rumble of thunder to follow seconds later. I crept down the hall to the back door, trying not to make a sound. I opened the door, and was instantly soaked to the skin as the rain buffeted against me. I could only just see, though not very far. I looked into the yard, searching for what, or who, could be crying. I shrieked when I saw a dark form huddled over in the yard.

"Mac over here! Over here!" I skidded as I spun, to throw the ball to Jake, laughing and punching the air when he put it threw the basketball ring.

I couldn't stand it, Gar was right there, lying on the ground, right in front of me, I could touch him, but I couldn't feel him, he wasn't there but he was. Tears ran down my face as I looked at his lifeless face, trying to find some evidence that he had survived the fall.
