⊰᯽⊱Coughing and choking on his own blood, Kale tried to roll to his side to allow it to run from his mouth instead of down his throat, but he couldn't. The pain was excruciating, just laying there, each breath felt as if his chest were being torn apart. When he tightened his muscles to turn, he gasped and cried out as his head swam and twisted. His stomach churned as if to unload itself, which terrified him. He knew he would choke to death if that happened.

Kale was in and out of consciousness as he struggled to breathe. Pain radiated throughout his entire body. His nerves felt as if they were being roasted over the pits of hell. Every inhale was torture, and his exhales made a wet, gurgling sound. Each time he came to, the agony was too much for him, and his mind receded into nothingness. Kale's body trembled from the cold, blood loss, and pain as he fought for another second of life.

When Kale opened his eyes again, he wondered if he were really awake or if he were now hallucinating. A bright light shone down upon him, making him squint and blink rapidly. Maybe this was the supposed light at the end of the tunnel. He wished for the pain to end one way or another. The burning, tearing waves of agony were the only things assuring him that he was actually awake, alive.

Kale tried to bring his right hand up to shield himself from the blazing light that tore at his eyes but his body refused to respond to his needs as another wave of pain lashed through him making him whimper.

‘God, please let me die.’ The wish kept echoing in his head as he cried. He couldn't take anymore. He'd never been in so much pain before, and his mind was starting to shatter from the strain. ‘Please, please let it end.’ He chanted over and over in his head as his brain began to recede once more from the madness that was quickly creeping in.

It was against the rules for Orem to have been allowed in the search helicopter, and it was most definitely against the rules to be helping with the recovery of Kale. Since the town of Serenity was so small and it happened to be the middle of the night, there weren't any other options.

When Orem had gotten to the closest house, he found they called the sheriff immediately, and they had begun the slow process of getting together the search party. They didn't have an official search and rescue team. Everything was on a volunteer basis. They would have had to wait for the next town over to send their team, but Kale didn't have that kind of time.

The sheriff had called the helicopter pilot and explained the situation. As he waited for him to get up and get the chopper ready, the sheriff had gotten together the things they would need to save the injured boy.

The sheriff had allowed Orem to accompany them since he couldn't get to Kale alone. The men set out as soon as possible, and Orem had shown them where he last saw his boyfriend. He wasn't there. They had to search the mountain for a while before spotting him.

Orem repelled down the side of the mountain, the sheriff close behind. He looked down at the small broken body, and his heart broke all over again. ‘What the hell was he doing this far over from where I had left him? Did the idiot really try to climb in the dark? Blind?’ Orem shook his head as his thoughts went wild.

As soon as Orem touched the rock, his anger returned. He could feel it building inside him like a ticking time bomb. He wanted to slap the shit out of Kale for not obeying his simple orders to stay put. Orem took a deep breath as he landed on the small shelf next to Kale. It wasn't Kale's fault. It was his. He was the one who blinded his lover and then expected him to trust he would come back.
