Nightmare

Every spell in here is delicate. Every book I've looked at in the library doesn't compare to the pure intricacy of this one. Every word is precise, being clear about the intentions. There's no bullshit on how to do the spell.

I attempt to do one that isn't particularly dangerous. I drop the grimoire in front of me, then open the closed curtain around my bed, grabbing a piece of paper near me from my sad attempt at doing homework earlier. Quickly I close the curtain once more and focus. I spare one last glance at the grimoire then put both palms in front of me. I hover them over the page then mutter 'Motus'.

As I raise my hands astonishingly the paper starts going up with it. My body radiates with excitement as I realize I accomplished the spell. I got the paper to levitate. In a quick thought I tried something more. Instead of guiding the paper up I twirl my finger and in a flash the paper follows. It flies in a small circle and I let out a little giggle. Adrenalin courses through me as I rush out of bed, I need to find Daphne.

__________

"Daphne I actually got it, I got a spell to work!" Her eyes light up when she processes my words.

"Bloody hell, it took me weeks before I could conjure an incantation. Which one did you do?" My mind goes wild at the response. How did I do it so easily?

"How about I show you?" All I feel is excitement as me and Daphne head to a more secluded corridor. Daphne seemed to be just as excited as me by the time we stopped. "Can I see your brooch?' Her eyes light up in question but doesn't say a word aloud. All she does is raise her hand to her hair and pull out her brooch. I inspected it for a second, the brooch is encased in silver with green filling the background of the slithering snake's body covered in gems. I lift my hand, saying the spell again, 'Motus.' Her eyes burst open.

"Oh my Merlin! I can't believe you actually did it." My chest fills with pride. "I knew the grimoire would help!"

"I'm not powerful, I couldn't even get my wand to work!" Her expression turns exasperated.

"Just because your wand isn't your tether, doesn't mean you're not powerful." I mull over her words, I never thought about it in that way. Her words make me think about it in a whole different light.

"Thank you." She gives me the brightest smile in return. My thoughts feel electric as I look at her.

"I have to go, but I'll see you soon." I grab ahold of her arm before I walk away reassuring my sentiment.

When I turn away from her I can't help the smile on my face as I walk away.

__________

My smile is ever persistent even as I walk back into my dorm. That is until I walk in. As soon as I open the door I see Ginny writing in some sort of journal. I only see the journal for a moment though. It seems as soon as Gin realizes that someone walked in the room she's hiding the journal so protectively it confuses me. I've never written in a journal before, but I'm not sure I'd be that protective over something like that.

"What the bloody hell was that?" Ginny finally seems to notice that it was me who walked in, not just another girl in our year.

"Nothing." She tries to brush it off as if this isn't unusual behavior.

"We don't hide stuff from each other. What the hell was that? I know mum and dad didn't buy that for you, that was a leather bound journal." It's like her entire body twitches when I bring up the journal. What the hell?

"Let off Ella, it's none of your business." I scoff. This is stupid insanity.

"You've got to be kidding me? It's a journal, why are you being so weird about it?" She huffs pulling her curtain in so she can apparently physically stop this conversation. I roll my eyes scoffing once again. I turn away from her bed plopping head down into my pillow and let out a well deserved scream.
