you groggily wake up, hearing the sounds of a radio playing a Brooklyn Dodgers game softly. you slowly sit up, glancing around the room you were in. you had never seen a room like this before. the closest would maybe be Peggy's tent/room back at the base, but this was different.

you slide your feet to the floor and struggle to stand on your two feet. how long have you been out? you allow your abilities to speed up your cells and fix yourself up quickly.

you wander around the room, glancing over the objects when you hear a loud bang from somewhere in the hall outside. you step over to the door and find it to be locked.

fear beginning to claw its way into you, you reach forward and easily rip the door from its hinges, wood splintering around you. you step out into a strange looking hall, everything being shiny and sleek.

Steve stares at you from a few doors down. the two of you run to each other, squeezing into a tight hug.

can you be blamed? no, not really. the last time you saw him you both thought you were going to die.

the large blonde releases you but keeps a hold of your hand and drags you through the halls and down into a lobby. a man dressed in black tactical gear shouts at the two of you.

"halt!" Steve easily barrels past him, tugging you along and running for the door.

once outside the two of you are overwhelmed. cars more slim and modern than you had ever seen, screens as big as buildings play ads, small lights shine on peoples faces from a small rectangle held in their hands. what was going on?

Steve, discombobulated and confused, runs down the crowded sidewalk. your hand slipping from his in his haze. you lose him quickly to the sea of people.

you look around nervously, it has been years since you've been in what you would consider a city, let alone one so unfamiliar.

trying not to panic, you back up into an alley and let yourself slide down a wall to the ground, resting your head on your knees to keep the bright flashing lights from agitating you further.

you sit and try not to have a panic attack as lights and sounds flood and overwhelm your senses.

.
.
.

around 30 minutes later you can hear someone shouting your name through the streets. glancing up you spot Steve across the road with a strange bald man wearing an eye patch.

you shakily move to your feet and call out to Steve. "over here!"

you wait for him to cross the road, the intimidating man following close behind.

Steve gives you a quick hug, i guess "dying" together will make you more affectionate toward someone, and explains everything, letting the bald man introduce himself.

"Colonel Fury, Director of SHIELD. you would have known us as the Special Scientific Reserve." you nod, your brows furrowed. you had no idea what the Special Scientific Reserve was.

"how are we not dead?" you ask, giving Steve a glance as you hold his hand tightly. you refuse to let go of him in fear that you might lose him again.

"as i explained to Steve earlier, we're not sure yet." Fury crosses his arms.

the three of you make your way back to the building you had run from with Steve explaining what he had learned from Fury in those few short minutes they had talked.

Steve suddenly pauses, scratching his head.

"you sure you're alright?" Fury asks, clearly something from their conversation earlier carrying over.

"yeah. it's just..." Steve's eyes widen and you gently squeeze his hand, knowing what he had just remembered. "i have a date."
