for months, you , Steve, Bucky, and the rest of the Howling Commandos took down base after base.

there were moments where you had almost used your abilities, but ended up not seeing how suspicious it would be for men to just start falling to the ground. you obviously used your strength and speed and other enhanced natural abilities to help, everyone knew about those. no, you were tempted to use your blood manipulation a few times on some rather unruly opponents.

.
.
.

Steve, you and the Commandos gather on a high plateau. Morita crouches over the transceiver. Jones listens to the transmission. Falsworth wields binoculars. Dugan and Dernier adjust a winch at the cliff's edge. Steve and Bucky stand in conversation you can't hear.

"The engineer just radioed ahead. Hydra dispatch gave him permission to open the throttle." Jones slips off his headphones as he speaks to the group. "Whatever's on this train, they must need it bad."

"well, they're not going to get it." Morita speaks cockily.

"i wouldn't be so sure..." Falsworth says. "because they're moving like the devil."

you stand next to Bucky as he looks over the edge. the two of you had grown close, not in a romantic sense. he had become a sort of older brother figure to you, same as Steve. even if Steve pissed you off sometimes because of everything that has happened between him and Peggy.

"remember when i made you ride the Cyclone at Coney Island?" Bucky speaks, glancing over at the blonde man beside him.

Steve responds without looking up from checking his rifle, "and i threw up?"

"this isn't payback, is it?" Bucky asks as he looks back over the edge.

"now why would i do a thing like that?" Steve looks up with a grin.

you chuckle at their interaction. you could definitely tell that they were best friends, and it made you happy to know they had accepted you into their little group.

"jerk."

"punk."

a train whistle blows through the pass and you look through a pair of binoculars, spotting a futuristic Hydra train approaching.

"alla board, gentleman and lady!" Falsworth shouts as he gestures to the cable. "mind the gap!"

Steve, Bucky, Jones, and you all attach t-bars to the cable, preparing to zipline to the train.

"okay, this is a very short, very fast train. we've got a ten-second window, tops." Steve says, addressing the three of you. "mistime it and you're a bug on the windshield."

Dugan checks the speed of the train against his watch. "better move it, bugs."

you roll your eyes at his attempt at a joke. it would've gotten a chuckle from you if you weren't one of the 'bugs' as he so kindly put it.

you four hook onto the cable stretching across the pass and wait for the signal from Dernier to cross. you can feel the excitement welling up in your veins as you wait for the signal.

once he drops his hand Steve is first to jump, followed by Jones, then Bucky, then you.

you drop down onto the slick roof, all landing safely. you glance at each other and breathe a sigh of relief.

you were supposed to go with Jones to the front of the train to the engine, but something in your gut told you to stay with Steve and Bucky and when you asked Jones he nodded, telling you it was alright. that trusting your gut was the best thing to do in these types of situations.
